Hi everybody,

This is my first post so please be kind. :)

I have two questions:

1) I have a Tascam 4-track 414 Portastudio. Can I use it as a mixer and hook it up to the compuer for HD recording and if so how do I go about hooking it to my computer?

2) How do I sync individual tracks when I record to the computer. For example, I have four individual tracks for a song on my Portastudio and I want to transfer them to 4 individual tracks in CoolEdit or SoundForge but it is hard to sync them all with my Portastudio mechanical counter. What is the best method to sync the tracks?

Thanks a lot everybody and take care.

Lesse, you want to transfer already recorded stuff to your PC, sync them and then add additional stuff on the PC, is that correct?
I'm no expert on the softwares you mention, but aren't you able to move individual tracks forward and backwards?

You can use it as a mixer (and preamp) though, just hook up the stereo outputs of the 4-track to the stereo inputs of your soundcard.

But my real advice would be to not do the transfer at all. Let the recordings you have done be what they are, instead of continually trying to make that recording of this song just a little bit better, finish up 7 or 8 songs, and send the three best of them to a record company. The A&R people care about the SONGS and the PERSONS, not about a glossy production. At least, the claim to do that. :)
So instead of trying to spice up the songs you already recorded and mixed, record more songs!

Just my 2 cents...
