Over $25,000 in musical instruments
and about $10,000 in studio stuff.

My friend has a 50 dollar used 4 track with two okay microphones, We just use the four track as a method of writing songs, frankly we aren't at the stage to make serious enough recordings to spend thousands of dollars on recording equipment, but suprisingly with what we have we can get some okay quality recordings.

I figure by the time I add a para eq, compressor, and monitors I'll be closer to $1000. And then I'll be able to record some listen-able demos.

But thats still less than I paid for my first drumset and cymbals, and ended up replacing all of that piece by piece before I ever was happy.

I'm probably in the $2000 range. Some of it serves muliple purposes though. My computer for example has been upgraded but not just for audio purposes. On top of the actual computer, throw in ram and a graphics card and little things like that which start to add up but i probably would have done reguardless. And there are things not directly related to music like dual moniters but i wouldn't have them if i didn't do music. This also doesn't include software, didn't even think about that. Hard to put a solid number because it's been a very slow build up. I'm going to be scared if i ever run into money though

I don"t know if it is Good Mic but for $25 I was willing to take the Chance and it has to be better than my Cheapo Dynamic Mics...

I guess I"ll as someone in the Mic"s section if they know anything about this Mic.....

Don't you guys keep an inventory?

I built a spreadsheet that has the name of the gear, the date purchased, purchase price, and serial number. It also totals the purchase price so I keep a running tab on how much I've got in my current setup. Whenever I buy or sell gear I update the spreadsheet. Very handy thing to have.

any way you might be able to post the template? I suck with exel

I'd say somewhere around $4,000. That's studio hardware and software, not including any instruments.

The biggest mistake so far....buying Hosa cables and having to repalce the pieces of shit.

But it doesn't look like it's (spending) going to stop anytime soon.

That's frivolous use of the term "investment"

I spent some $5k for just the studio (after dropping three times that much for live equipment when we had a band) and after realizing I have no talent nor time and after eBaying all that stuff off I'm stuck with 1 acoustic guitar, 1 mic, some cables and $60K credit card debt and not having enough $$ to file bankruptcy

I did learn 1 thing: having the gear doesn't bring you closer to results. I think I play my acoustic with more pleasure now than when I head all the expensive guitars and gear.

All one needs to be happy is a decent acoustic guitar, a decent 12-string (you can't buy a cheap one, cuz they don't sound good), a nice electric strat, a nice Les Paul, a nice Jazz bass, maybe a fretless, a couple of good amps... (does anybody see that I'm joking yet?)

Oh, I wish they had a Maalox for this G.A.S.
