lets say i have a Behringer MX3282 mixer and i buy a Mackie 24.8

how much of an upgrade would you consider that??

will i notice a clear difference?

At one point the behri boards were copies of the mackies. You probably won't notice a giant difference in the sound, maybe just features.

yeah the MX looks exactly the same, has most the same features, doesnt have the direct outs or lights for the busses which would be nice, i would like the meter bridge too.

how about the pres though, wouldnt they sound better?

i would say the mackie's pres are definitely better. but it's a matter of "how much". probably a lot.

i've got a mackie sr24*4 VLZ and its preamps are just fine. sure you can get better preamps, but if you can't make decent recordings with mackie preamps, your problem lies somewhere else.

IMO the weakness in the mackie boards is the EQ and the headroom on the busses (including the mix bus)......not the preamps.

cheers,
wade

yeah, cause ive been thinking about upgrading my mixer for a while now and i want to make sure i make a choice where i will see/hear a difference.

I remeber a while back when i talked to some other guys on the board i mentioned my behri board and they suggested that i upgrade, and that i would be blown away by the sound difference. hmmmm

If you A/B'd the mixers, you might be able to tell them apart. I don't think that there is a big enough difference in sound to justify dumping one for the other. (unless the metering and direct outs are worth it to you)
