I found about 30 dat tapes. They have been used but seem to be in mint condition. Are they worth any thing? Can they be taped over? If so, will any quality be lost? How much are new ones?
Ceaser, a Musician still stuck in an analog world.

Stuck in an analog world?

Huh? DAT is digital, not analog...

Hey Ceasar:
I think Chuck forgot to see that this is the Newbie section...I'll help you.

DAT stands for Digital Audio Tape. It can only be played in a DAT machine...If you have a DAT player & recorder, no problem, you can erase over them. How many times? Some people say forever, but keep in mind that tape is tape, and there is also the factor of tape wear (stretching) as well.
30 DAT tapes is alot to find. Where did you get them?
If you haven't done so, I would suggest listening to what is on them before you erase them..could be someone's jewels on there.

If you find there is no need for your DAT taes, I will give you my address, and I'lltake them off your hands (:

Hey give me alittle credit.

Thanks for the replies,
exactly what I wanted to know.
What I ment by stuck in analog world, is that I'm stuck in dark ages. I have only used regular tape, never digital cause I can't afford the Dat machine. I do know Dat tape is digital & Analoge is well.....not. I just don't know much more about dat tapes. (thats a lie, I know now that one can use them over & over again.)
Thanks for the help.

PS

P.S. Dougie I found them in some one's trash. By the look of the trash, I think they were left behind after a move.

Weird...
People don't usually throw away DAT tapes...
I suggest you find someone with a DAT player & see what is on there..Could be something great..
Or it could just be outakes from Eminem..Explains why they were in the garbage...
What are you doing going through people's garbage anyway?

BAD VAGRANT!!! :D

Now to answer the question asked!

DAT tapes have a life of at least 1000 passes over the tape heads before ANY audible errors can be heard. What I mean is that you can play them at least that many times without hearing any degregation of signal. When you DO hear the degregation, you will know it! :D
