i wasn't insulting anyone. the question was:
my response stands. learning music theory is NOT the same as buying a map. it takes years to develop. during the years that it takes to learn it, i was playing in bands.
i don't care one way or the other if you know it or not. good for you if you do.
I was actually referring more to the comments like these:
yeah, that definitely ain't me. i don't care what you band dorks do.
(EZ)
I hate theory people and hope they all die.
(Greg)
The whole Greg vs. Chamelious thing, which Greg started right here:
I was born without talent, rhythm or an ear for music. I'm no Vai, but i'd hope i'm more than "serviceable".
(Chamelious)
We can tell
(Greg)
band geek defends his earlier position.
(EZ)
still too geeky for my liking.
(EZ)
So basically theory is just a lazy mans formula for making music that fits a template. Got it.
Aren't your ears supposed to tell you what works?
(Greg)
There's only 12 notes to choose from. If you can't just figure it out from there, find a new hobby.
(Greg)
whatever. i don't care. you dorks keep practicing your scales and modes and i'll keep writing songs and rocking out.
(EZ)
What the hell does practicing a scale do for you anyway? Anyone can sit and play a scale.
(Greg)
apparently the band geeks think it'll make you write a string of hit songs and get chicks.
(EZ)
So, if we extrapolate this further, we can deduce that theory = gay.
(Greg)
I had no idea you played math metal. Your love of needless theory all makes perfect sense now.
(Greg)
i'm into not spending time on theory, like the other guys that rock.
(EZ)
I've already spent too much time copying this stuff (all from this thread), so I'll stop there, though I'm sure there are plenty more nuggets in there. There are probably more from Greg, but that's a given.
