How important are lyrics to you ...and why ?

Nope. Not offended.
I was having fun with it, you made a strong statement of opinion, I'm sure you knew you would get some opinionated responses.

Yes I have tunes, http://www.myspace.com/johncarroll1 you can hear a couple of them here. They are all recorded in a studio though, 16 track 2 inch tape.
I am trying to develop my home recording skill so I can at least do tracking at home and bring it to get mixed and mastered.
Thanks for welcoming me. I've been reading posts here for a couple months and I decided to throw in my two cents . I'm sure I will pipe in again.
This seems like a great forum with a lot of good experience based exchange of ideas going on, I am glad I found it.

Best lyrics ever:

I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesn't matter much to me
As long as it's dead

Well I got something to say
I raped your mother today
And it doesn't matter much to me
As long as she's spread

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

That is a great song, all the way around. I think Danzig slowly lost his mind or, became quite confused over the years though, at least pertaining to his solo stuff. From what I can sum up from his various songs, he's an evil demon without a name just a number. :laughings:

That is a great song, all the way around.:

The beauty of Last Caress is the melody and music behind the demented lyrics. It's like a poppy fun Ramones song with evil lyrics. People didn't do stuff like that back then. It's like if the Beatles weren't wimpy faggots, it could be one of their songs.

Haven't read this whole thing, so sorry if I'm repeating anything already said, but personally I don't care too much about lyrical content.

I listen to a vocalist more as if they were another instrument and am concerned more with the tone of their voice and how it blends with the other sounds. Things like the rhythm of their delivery and how sharp the consonants are is more important to me than what they're actually saying.

I guess I'm just not all that interested in what poets or musicians have to say about the world as I'm not looking to learn anything from them. If I want to be enlightened, I'll read some philosophical text or something.

Having said that, thoughtful, unique lyrics and clever rhyming can elevate an already good tune, but silly meaningless or offensive lyrics really can't ruin what is otherwise a great number (for me anyway).

The Misfits are a bad example of music and lyrics, as is all hardcore punk.

The Misfits were chock full of hooks and melodies and fun sing-a-long lyrics. Anyone that's heard them knows this. You obviously haven't, so your opinion is moot.

For real, how can you not tap your foot and bob your head to these songs?

I think lyrics are different in every song depending on the song and they mean something different to everybody, I agree that everything else is more important especially the vocal performance, but I think the words are still important, just the flow of the words and the syllables matters a lot. but it can matter as little or much as you want depending on the writer and the song...

I know. I just thought I'd throw some inflammatory statement out there - just like you do. It's fun to piss people off isn't it?

It's fine in the Cave. But if you want to piss off someone in the on-topic forums, you should really have a reason.

I must have hurt his feelings somehow.

As long as you're applying that rule to everyone who posts here, you have my apology.

Aww, you just don't like the taste of your own medicine. Relax, I like the Misfits.

Man, you really taught me a lesson! :laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

There is no medicine. I don't think I said anything to you. You're just another nameless, faceless dork on the internet that gets offended too easily. :laughings:

Even the use of five of these things :laughings: doesn't disguise the fact that you're pissed off dumb ass...

Stop taking this thread off topic.

Bob Dylan said "a song is anything that can walk by itself" and I agree. I think good lyrics enable a song to 'walk by itself' as does good music. As long as people are engaging with your songs, the methods you favour are irrelevant. I know that this is the reason I make music; to communicate.

Cue a bunch of idealistic windbags claiming how they write deep and meaningful lyrics, or posting examples of crappy songs that "move" them with the stupid lyrical content. Gullible bozos. :laughings:

:laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

Nailed it.
