I bought one of those pre-pack thigns off eBay for $100. It has a kick mic, and 2 toms mics in it. I can't even remember the name, something I've never seen before, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have either. I think they soudn fine. The bass drum mic is great, really punchy and picks up really nice attack when you point it at the beater. The toms mics I actually use as semi-overhead type things (one pointed down torwards the floor tom from the snare side, and one pointed torwards my high toms, which are on a stand in front of the snare and not on the bass drum, from near the floor tom) SInce I dn't have a couple matched condensors for overheads, these pick up all my toms and cymbals quite nicely. I use a condesnor made by Telex on the snare, got it for $40 on eBay. If I ever see more of them I will buy them all, I can't say enough good things about that mic. I use it as my main snare mic, vocal mic, and to mic guitar amps (mixed with a 57). That comes to a total of 4 mics that cost me around $155 shipped. People who come and record with me are alwasys impressed with the sound I can get out of those mics. If you spend enough time playing with the placement and room those Cad's will sound killer. The room does have a lot to do with it though. I record in a very nice sounding room. It is 6 sided, has big glass windows on one side, a big fabric wall hanigng on another side and plaster/wood on all the other walls. The floor has a wood area for the drums to sit on, and the rest is carpet. The Seinheisser's will probably be better in the long run, but the Cad's aren't all that bad. I'm sure they are 10 times better then the piece of shit mics I use. Someday soon I will post a MP3 in the clinic so you people don't think I'm as crazy.
