I have seen Acid for some time now, but never took the time to really see what it is and what it can do. I am piecing together a business plan for voice over work and was contemplating buying a production library. Then I downloaded the Acid demo and was sold on it.

With millions of copies sold and a forum dedicated to Sonic Foundry, I thought this would be a good place to ask.

How about E. All of the above

Mostly for film scoring (trying to get in the biz - have done some little stuff for little or no pay)

Have done some spec commercials.

And I use it for basic songwriting/arranging as well.

I think it is a great program.

I use it in conjunction with Fruity Loops for special effects on music. I tend to like concept albums and such.

SoMm

I do mostly drum loops from a bunch of old vinyl funk I found on a website. I usually layer 3 or 4 deep and totally get lost in the groove. Fun stuff. I've also used it in basic song arrangements to share, although I usually don't keep the acid versions. I usually end up tracking from scratch.

Brad summed up my thoughts, word for word.

Re- Uses of ACID

I use it for making loops to export into cubase, the reason being that I can trim them in acid and know that they will be in perfect tempo and on the start point for the project I'm working on. This allows me to use one computer to make loops and another running cubase to do the arranging/fx/mixing , linking them via network cable. I used to use ACID for almost everything but it is a pain when it comes to fx automation because of all the seperate envelopes ! I prefer cubase for this and the fact that you can use a 'phat boy' or some other controller to experiment without spending hours re-drawing everything. In short ACID is a blinding program, but it is limited in other areas.

I agree with you also, reflex kid.

I use Acid to write my drum tracks, then export them to ntrack for multi-track recording. Drum Sugar rocks!

well i am new to acid, but i have done a few whole songs on acid with the help of sound forge. What I do is load pre made instramentals on to it, then record vocals over it, and it works pretty well for syncing my vocals to the beat. I have other programs like cool edit pro, cubase VST 32 5.0, nuendo and all those beat making programs but acid is the easiest for me to just make tracks. Though I am interested in finding out about this "phat boy" that reflex kid mentioned with cubase.

Re- Phat Boy question

The G-media Phat Boy is a midi controller that allows you to 'play' with your soft synths filters/rez/cutoff etc in real time via the use of hardware knobs. It can also be linked to cubase faders for mixing. However a cheaper and potentially more useful item is now available- the Doepfer Pocket controller, its small, light, and upgradeable via your PC with loads of presets for various VSTi's etc. Check it out here-

If you like soft synths but hate having to use the mouse because you cant 'play around' in real time then this sort of thing is essential.

I like to just let a tab sit under my tongue and then later a few beers........

Well I do the most with it. I record, make drumtracks and mixdown. EQ and effects and such I do on each track in soundforge. Why you ask? Just feels better for me.

I write rock music with samples and loops. I use Acid 4.0 Pro for absolutely everything.

RE: Motorbreath

I have been the proud owner of Acid Pro 4.0 for about three days now and I haven't slept much....

I spent about an hour and a half messing with the 2.4 version and fell in love. I play drums in a band and since we moved all our gear to my house I have began trying to get together recording equipment to start working on my own stuff, now that I have all these amps and guitars and so forth around me and I thought Acid would be a good program to help out, with, right now I am basically feeling my way along and writing 2 minute "movements". I really do love the ease of this program.
Any suggestion for running an analog 4-track stuff into this program for further editing?
Thanks!

A straight line that good, and it took that long for someone to take it.

I use it for any looping of vocals, guitars, and especially drums (mostly drums hits/cymbals/toms, etc versus using prefab loops, which I occassionally use if it fits).

After that I usually watch the wall move for a few hours. :p
