pentatonic scales exist in every mode except locrian. so - six modes, six pentatonics. ionian and aeolian are relative maj/min as are dorian/lydian and phrygian/mixolydian, so actually just three, but they are all derived from the diatonic scale.
So for instance, in a minor, an e minor or d minor pentatonic is still in the right key, just emphasizing a different mode. So it's not in the wrong key, it's just phrased around a different tonal center. Lots of players do this.

wo! Is it true or not? I play guitar for about 13 years now, almost all I know are the main notes on my guitar, and how works the volumes on my LesPaul! That kind of discussion always impressed me! But..., Steve Vai and X other -great- guitar players are soooo boring. Impressive! -But boring.

Music, at least for me, should be cool to listen. Not to impressed people in any way, like 99% of what we can see on tv. Anyway, pretty sure most people here think the same thing hu?

So about Metallica, I heard almost nothing from them till 1992, when I got bored by the Black album. I was a Metallica fan from aroung 1986 - Master- so I dont like what their doing right now,(well the little I heard) but to me they can do whatever they want, Metallica will always be great. They can now do what JudJud did a few years ago, I will still respect them. You know JudJud right? If not, you HAVE to. http://www.mp3it.com/artist.php?artist_id=38

For the question -Do you get that heavy sound?

I'll simply say to get the same gear, and the same tech. hu!

Or cut the midz...if it makes you think you sound like them, good!

Can you go as fast as a F1 with your hyundai accent? (yes..that's what I own...)

---just to mention--- My favorite guitar soud is actually on the Queen Of The Stone Age album. Some songs sounds so cool!!!

Ciao!

they layered mesa's, marshalls, vox, etc. they had a signal splitter to elimanate the countless overdubs and just mixed distortion with overdrive, with clean, with slight distortion tones etc.

I agree - music is all about enjoyment - i don't particularly like overly technical players, or technically impressive players. I hope I didn't sound like I was trying to impress anyone with my theory discussion - just speaking to the "wrong key" bit... wrong is definitely in the ear of the beholder, and since "wrong key" is a theoretical premise, I went with the theory bit.

Anyway, my favorite artists right now aren't even guitar players.

Tellin' ya, the early albums (from Justice back) were done with a Mesa Boogie Studio stereo preamp, just like the ones Kurt Cobain used. Don't know exactly which power amps, or cabs, though.

Kirk's recent set-up:
- Line 6 duoverb
- 2 Marshall 1960B cabinets
- Marshall super lead 'plexi' top
- Meas/Boogie Triple Rectifier
- Dumble Super string Singer (!)
- Brown cabinet

And actually, I'm not Kirk. I'm James.

Bit complicated to tell you. Just take a look at the picture.

Oh yes, the guitar tones from Symphony of Destruction are good too.

And this is my James Hetfield pose... See the kids gettin' wild!

Who cares? I know a ton of theory too, and I know that Kirk's solos "work" from a technological standpoint. But is that the point? Just because something is technically correct that doesn't mean it sounds good. Music is in the ear of the beholder, and before AJFA, Kirk made his solos sound good, while also making them technically correct. Since then, he has been content to wank intellectually, or do the Carlos Santana bit. I don't care for it, I think it sounds like shit, even his band thought it sounded like shit. I can justify just about anything musically. But aurally, that shit doesn't fly with me.

dude, i said almost exactly what you said later in the thread. I was just adressing the "wrong key" bit.

I'm sure you do know a ton of theory... too! I wasn't trying to be a snobby bullshitter or anything.

And I don't care. I was just hoping to share with someone how 3 different pentatonics can be in the same key, and maybe he or she might think it sounds cool, unlike you.

Your aesthetic sense may not appreciate a lot of stuff, but somebody else may still care about how it was created or derived.

If you also read my posts, I said I liked everythin before ajfa, so I actually agree with you.
