How do ya'll record your bass?

I've usually gone straight into my Roland VS-2480,and applied the appropriate effect patch.
But now I'm experimenting with recording everything to tape first-so I got my Fender amp fixed.
What I'm hearing now is rattles and vibrations from all over the place,even with the volume fairly low.Hit a certain note,and the hinges on one of my closet doors rattle.Hit another note and I can hear the metal in an air conditioning grille rattle.
Yikes!!
How do ya'll handle this,short of creating a sonically-perfect room?
 
Via direct box into my Tascam DAW. My Fender has active pickups, a set of EMG's, and it does great direct.
 
if you're gonna mic it, close mic it. That should help with, if not eliminate, the rattles coming from the room. Have you tried combining the two? That can be a lot of fun.
