Hi there. Basically what I want to do is record the output of Cubase 5 onto 1audio track whilst playing around with effects etc in realtime. I know there is software(tapeit) that does this but also cubase 5 has an option to do this which I would prefer, I just cant seem to find it in the manual. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

I am confused about what you are asking? Do you want to use outboard effects to see what they do to your track from Cubase, or do you want to use effects in Cubase?

If it's the latter, just insert your VST effects right on the track, you can record a dry track and as you play it back, you can change the VST settings to taste.

If it's the former, well, kind of the same thing. Record your track and change settings hile you play it back.

Unless, I'm misunderstanding you, this is not just an option in Cubase, it is what Cubase or any DAW software does. does.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have 5 midi vst intruments playing in cubase 5, what I would like to do is record these in realtime to 1 single audio track in cubase whilst i'm playing around with the vst effects so I get 1 audio file which has all the effect changes.

So basically it's like i'm sampling my work in realtime whilst playing the tracks and adding effects/mangling the sounds to create 1 audio file that I can edit, cut, etc. and add parts into my project.

Hope this helps i'm not too keyed up on modern terminology in the digital environment.:drunk:

Well, one thought is to route all your VSTi's to a bus. This in essence gives you one track of all your instruments that will output in real time as you play. You can add effects to this bus and manipulate in real time as well as record your manipulations with envelopes, so when you play it back, the manipulations are recorded and played back as well.

If you don't want to use a bus, you can route all the VSTi's to one audio track and add effects there.

Or, you can mix all your VST's down and re - import them into one track. Now add your effects.

Lots of ways to do it. You may want to go through some of the cubase tutorials to learn more.

Thanks for the advise, shall look for some tuts and read rtfm again. :)
