Yo Dude, Here is a link to the US copyright office.
http://www.loc.gov/copyright/

As far as getting you tunes on the web, You will need to get you music on a computer that can generate mp3 files. This can be done by mixing down directly from your akai, or if you have already burned to cd, you can generate an mp3 from there as well (on computer of course).

Hey JC Lives!

I went to the copyright site, but which form do i need to copyright songs and a band name?

Is there a cost?

I am not sure about copyrighting your band name. Maybey someone else can help with that. As far as what form to use, there are a couple of choices and depending on how you are going to submit your music will determine which form to use. If you are going to submit just a tape then you would use form SR. There is also form PA for Performing Artist. I printed the forms a couple of years ago and do not remember all the specifics. But you can find all the information you need on their web site. Hope this helps.

Happy Recording

Say I'm also interested in creating my own website. I have just recently finished a decent sounding demo that I'd like to market on the internet. I wonder if there are any websites to go to about building your own website. Also anymore information on MP3's.. should I have thought about this while I was recording my music or can I create my own MP3's from my CD. Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks
DL.

free websites

I just found a great place to build your own website. It's absolutely free and they have everything you need to construct it, post audio files, etc., and there's no catch and as far as I can tell I haven't sold my soul to the Devil or anything. Go to http://homestead.com. If you'd like to take a look at mine (which I'm still working on), go to http://LongIslandSlim.homestead.com.

Hey Slim thanks for the info on the website. I haven't collected all the details just yet but it looks to a great place to start. I was advised that it would be smart to have my own domain also... what's your outlook on that? Again thanks for the reply.
DL.

You're welcome.

As to becoming the master of your own domain, one thing I know about domain names is that you have to pay to register and maintain them. What I liked about homestead is that it was just like my own domain except with the "homestead.com" tacked onto it. By the way, I just noticed that MP3.com offers websites too, so you should probably see what they have to offer also.

Thanks again Slim for the info. I'm on my way now to check out Mp3.com. Talk at you later.

Hey Dlockwood!

I agree Homestead.com is probably the best place to go for a web site. Im currently building mine through them and its free. Also after you build it of course theres this huge address, but what i did was go to and web site called http://www.go.to and sign up for a new address that will link you to your long address, for example my address is:
http://www.homestead.com/sondriven/home.html

But through go.to its http:/i.am/sondriven

The only thing is that they put advertisment on your web page, but if you get the block on the bottom its not that bad. What can you really get for free?

But anyway through homestead you can download their web page builder for free and you dont have to be online to work on your page.

I just need to get my songs to cd and copyrighted then they'll be there.

Good luck!

Hey Sondriven:
I like the new look. Sounds like you're on your way to great looking website. I think I'm going to do what you did and have the advertisements placed at the bottom. I think it's a great way to start out... I mean a person could always beef-up thier website later on down the road. My question is can you install samples of your work (on the site) for easy download. A lot of websites I have visited has this feature... not so much Mp3... but samples of say just a small portion of the song you're promoting. What do you think? Let me know... and hey thanks for the great info, I'm looking forward to re-visiting your site when you finish... good luck dude.

Hey DL, one of the homestead elements allows you to import audio files. You can definitely post them there. Good luck guys.

By the way, I think I gave you the incorrect address for my site. I thought that putting my site name prior to Homestead's would work but apparently it doesn't. So let's try http://homestead.com/longislandslim/index.html
