how can i limit the noise level and inference/?

iN order for me to get a hot signal ..there seems to be too much noise..I am using an Avalon 747 for a compressor/ equalizer...and my preamp is cheap...
what can I do...I am using a good condenser mic..rode K2 and audiotechnia 4033..and I want to do some stereo recording...with everything.

Don't use a cheap preamp. Use the Avalon, record in mono. One great preamp is better than one great preamp and one that sucks. What you gain in stereo separation is more than lost in signal quality.-Richie

I have no choices right now

I don't have the choice financially right now.
The Avalon vt 747 is a wonderful piece and it is making my music sound great even with the cheap pres connected to it.
The Avalon cost 2500 dollars.
The pre is cheap. That is all I am saying ..it is on the lower end.

I have no choices right now..I am happy, I have a 50 thousand dollar studio..
which includes a 20 thousand dollar grand piano..
I am so fortunate...but my priorities are with the instruments...
the monitor..the Compressor which is helping..

Life isn't perfect...and sometimes you just have to work with what you have.

People have alot less. and I took a loan ....
I am an artist.

No artist should feel pressured to buy equipment they can't afford.

The point it, artistt, that you Avalon probably has nothing to do with your problem. If you're getting too low of a signal and too much noise from your microphones, the problem lies in your preamp or it's settings... long before the signal ever gets to your Avalon.

If you want the answer to your original question, you/we need to look at the preamp part of your signal chain.

If we don't know what preamp your mics are plugged into and how it is set, we can't answer your question.

I would think that nobody could tell you where your noise is coming from without a complete description of your audio chain including the equipment settings for each component.

Yes I know..I am troubleshooting and reading..and I will try to figure it out, I have been trying...
One mic is noisier then the other..maybe it is the setting on the compressor...but it is high quality compressor...I guess that might not mean anything if the setting are wrong.

How hot of a signal are you trying to get? Peaks at -6 is respectable.

My guess is that you are cranking the ART and it is getting backed off at the Avalon, so you turn up the ART, etc...

Turn down the gain on the ART to get rid of the noise, use the makeup gain on the Avalon to bring the level up.
