How are Japanese Fender basses?

I am offered an 80s/90s japanese fender jazz bass (with a precision pickup in the "rythem" position for trade ill give my US fender precision with a jass bass neck and a baddass bridge. im not sure if i like the precision for my recordings.

which is a better recording bass for rock? how is the build quality and general opinion on japnese made fender basses?
