Hook up new monitors??

You know bd, I am almost ashamed to admit I own a Behringer mixer, they get such negative reviews and comments on these forums. However, when you actually get comments from regular joe's like ourselves, you find that they are actually incredible bang for the buck. I guess if you aspire to recording on a Neve desk then a Behringer is just a joke. For me, the mixer was an excellent buy. As far as the noise issue is concerned, I have experienced a lot of noise when attempting to record acoustic guitar, and yes, I had the gain cranked. However, when I did the same thing on the Audio Buddy pre amp it was silent. But what the hell, for eighty bucks what can I expect.
Gospel, I have the same issue myself. I am recording a blues album, all covers of course. It's a project I have always wanted to to and it''s a good excuse to do a lot of guitar playing and singing whilst at the same time learning how to record. The one problem is posting. Like you, I cannot do the nowhereradio thing. I guess what some of us in this position could do is send mp3's via email for others to comment on. By the way, just buy the B1 and put yourself out of your misery. By this time next year you know you'll have a couple of MXL's along with it. :)

Got the monitors hooked

Man what a difference. There is only one problem. I want to re-mix every song I have on my pc. I guess I'll save it for the next project. According to how accurate these things are my other mixes are very harsh and need a good bit mid lows or lows (can't really tell which one right now). These things are great. They may not be Mackies, Genelecs, KRKs, or any of those others that are made out of gold.

By the way, don't know if I told on this thread about the deal I got. They are M-Audio Studiophile SP-5Bs. I caught them on musician's friend on the scratch and dent page. One of them has a scratch on the bottom of it. $159.99.

Very sweet Gospel, you can't go wrong with that one. Congratulations. Now we just have to get to know the monitors so that our mixes are good on all types of systems. That will take time, but we have enough to work with. I'm still learning about mine and find it very useful to listen to albums on them so that I can get a feel for where things should sit in the mix. This is really useful. Again, you did really well to find that deal.

Very good deal indeed, MF just put them ON SALE for $200! In my case, the monitors are the best speakers in the house so all the cd's get played on the computer now. It does give you a reference to an extent, problem is comparing acoustic guitar and vox to a full blown production.

The Behringer thing........that mixer was the first piece of equipment I bought, when I was recording on the computer. I spent a lot of time researching, which didn't really help a lot. In the end, the price was the deciding factor. I don't regret the decision I made, in fact I question the wisdom of spending multiples of what I spent for..... :??? what?

I will be buying probably a Behringer UB802. I think it is the one with two mic inputs for $70 or $80 and a condenser soon. I just wish that musician's friend had the Studio Projects B1? I like buying from them. I already have an account with them and get 90 days same as cash. I might just have to start out with a mic that they carry.

Gospel, congrats on your monitors. I know what you mean - I got some Edirols and wanted to immediately remix everything.

On the mics issue - I got an MXL 990 from MF - included a hard case, a shock mount, and a mic stand mount. I did all the vocals on my NWR page on it - http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2901&alid=-1

BTW, I just posted a rendition of "It Is Well" there - I assume you're familiar with the original. Let me know what ya think.

Man that is a great job on It Is Well. I sat here and added another harmony part. I think I might have to look into getting a mic like that. It really seems to work good for vocals. Just so I'll have accurate knowledge about the mic, did you use any eq cuts or boosts?

I think I may have added just a tiny boost to Tori's vocal in the 15kHz-plus range (sometimes known as "air" eq). Other than that, no major eq'ing.

I use pantyhose stretched over a coat hanger as a windscreen. I know that's extremely ghetto, but it's free.

I have the same thing for a pop filter. You need to check out the song I did if you haven't already.

Yes, I did hear it - very good harmonies. Now you just need to add a vocal bass part and pitch-shift it down an octave. Go J.D. Sumner!

I didn't think about that? I'll have to do that sometime.

Madfrisbee,
Check your PM......dude, you need to use e-mail!
