Ok Ive spent the last month or so figureing out this software and how to record everything into it, I have it down and actually have a couple songs done, but my one question is this.

I have 3 guitar tracks, 1 bass track, 1 precussion track (built in frutyloops) and 2 vocal tracks.

Im using the volume and pan envelopes on all the tracks.

When I mix down to wave it comes out sounding pretty good, but Ive noticed after listening to it burnt on a cdrw that its just "not loud enough" Like Ive been listineing to alot of others stuff and it seems more clear. Mine overall just sounds a little muffled. It sounds good and I can hear everything and I have all the tracks levels to my liking but the whole thing just isnt as clear or loud as I would like.

Is this just a limit of homestudio?

Hey there.

I would reccomend doing a search here on "Reference CDs" and Mastering.

The reference CD will help you get the sound you are looking for.

As far as Volume goes:

Here are a few things that might help.

After I get the mix down perfect in Home Studio, I export it as a wave and save it. Then I open a NEW file in HS and Import the mixed down wave onto track 1. Now you can play around with some different EQs and compressors if needed. Then You can clone track 1. Now you have two tracks of the same thing. And it does boost the volume. When finished.. Save the file as your Master for that song. And export it as a wave again. now try it out in your media player and compare it to some other songs in your media player. If the volume is still too low. go back into the Master and start turing up the main volume on the mixer board. Save and export as wave. Keep repeating this step until you get the desired sound/volume.

Hope that helps.

No, you've just discovered Mastering (and of course that you need to train your mixing skills. ;))

Read the article-section at this page :)
