Here's a pic of my studio, located in a spare bedroom of my apartment. it's not usually this bright, but with the dim lighting, the pics came out way too blurry.

I love questions, comments, criticisms etc., so please fire away.

Tony

Nice setup - love the two 17" monitors - way to go :):)

are you using the sub on the monitors or just on the puter speakers??

I've recently purchased one and I wonder what it would be like on a pair of NS10s :D

cheers
John

Beatles posters and dual monitors. That alone makes it a VERY nice studio.

I dig it!

Those tapes on the wall bothered me...:D.... Do they still make those things?

Other than that.. good stuff man!...

can I have a closer look at your rack? :)

nice setup.... I notice you don't treat your wall much... do you record vocals in there? how do they sound?

Okay.here we go: The tapes on the wall are DATs, yes they serve a purpose still, believe it or not! Most commericial studios around here (NY) still occasionally use them!

I am eventually going to treat the walls, probably behind the monitors, and the parallel walls. I'm looking at the Auralex package of 12 pyramid 2x4's for $249. Alas, the beatle posters (originals!) will be moved somewhere else.

It's hard to show you the full room. The back wall has a wire rack full of books and there are bookshelves above.....not the best diffusers. I don't do any critical vocal work in here, just guide vocal stuff. Once i treat the walls, then I may section part of the room off. There is a small closet at the back of the room, but it is also full of stuff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I only use a subwoofer with the PC speakers. they are only used for PC sounds, games etc. Not for monitoring.

I'll send a pic of the rack later.

Thanks,

Tony

Very cool, or should I say "beary cool" I was asked if I did vocals in room because of my lack of wall treatment, and the answer is yes I do, but I get some background noise, especially with the AT4033. I'm going to be adding wall treatment in the future, or I may jsut get rid of everything in my closet and turn that into a small (!) vocal booth.

Do you record vocals in your room, and, aside from the bears, are there any wall treatments?

How do you like the RNC compressor?

Tony

My "bear" studio should give blue bear a run for his money... ;) :D :D

At the moment I have a mattress against the wall for some room treatment, I'd put some more up when doing vocals.... but I use my SM57 most of the time and no problem there.... sometimes I'd use my APEX small condensor and does have that room sound if you stand too far....

I guess you can bring the background sound to a minimal with good mic position....

how do you like the AT4033?.... plan to get one myself as well.... :) (or the C1, still can't decide....)

I got my RNC used and really love it.... it's really transparent and sometimes you don't even realise you're using it....

but, I sing rock, and prefer the color of the VC3Q... :)

I like the 4033. It's a powerful mic, and that's where the background noise comes in. It picks up everything. I have no experience with the C1. I also have a Rode NT1. Nice sound as well.
