I'm a newbie who's been experimenting with different mic combinations, a pretty decent soundhole pickup in the acoustic 6 string, running straight into my MR-8, running through a powered mixer into the MR-8, running through a ZOOM, everything I can think of except running through my good eq - which I currently can't do until I get a new power cord - and I consistently have a very faint hiss.

Is that:
A) normal
B) a function of my mic / mics
C) a function of the MR-8
D) something I can hope to evenually figure out and eliminate
D) noise fairies - learn to live with it

Anybody?

Pretty please?

It's probably because everything you are running adds noise to your signal chain.

Which mixer are you using? Some of them have pretty noisy pre amps. The cheaper ones tend to be the noisiest.

The mixer is a Fender SR6300P.

I've trying both an Audio Technica ATM31 mic and a DiMarzio DP-138 pickup alone and in combination.

jeezuz, I just figured it out! - I had the mic setting in the back of the machine set on "electric guitar" instead of "mic/line". Yep, that's right - I'm a bright one . . . .

Ahhhhh, OK!

I don't think I would have caught that, but I was going to ask about your trim levels on the MR-8 next anyway. It's better to get your boost from the mixer (you have a pretty good one, btw) because the pre amps on the MR-8 are crap.

Glad you figured it out!
