Hi, I am a total noob and seek your guidance.
I went ahead and bought a Digi 002R for $500 from a friend of a friend.

I'm thinking of using a "stand alone" computer to use for Pro Tools 8. Would like to buy something used because of budget. I'm not familiar with Macs but I hear that they are more Pro Tools "friendly". I can buy this G4 for $200, upgraded from a 512 mb ram to a 1.7Gb ram. Apple Mirror drive door G4 at 1.25. Comes with apple acrylic monitor (17") and apple mouse and keyboard. Will this suffice? or should I stick with a PC.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

I absolutely would not recommend "sticking with a pc." Sorry, I'm one of those mac-freaks that won't shut up about it. Haha.

Your G4 should run the digi002 just fine. I've been using a dual 1ghz G4 with MOTU DP5 and a TASCAM us-1641 with no problems at all. Your G4 MDD will be able to handle Pro Tools without much resistance.

Max out your RAM and don't load up the mac with a bunch of extra programs. Keeping it "stand alone" will really help increase the computers life for your recording purposes.

yeah it should easily run it. You have to remember, that AD/DA processes are taken care of by the 002 itself and not as much by the cpu.
