I am new to recording altogether, but I want to record some demos for our band and whatnot, nothing huge.

I am looking to use this method for drums: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=39030

What mics would you reccomend for that set up (2 condensors and a bass, possibly a snare)?

I only can spend up to say, $300 for mics, and it would be great if we could use them for other things (ex. micing guitar cabs, vocals,..)

Also, what would you reccomend for a cheap mixer to handle these drum mics, and say a guitar and a bass guitar, and vocals? Not neccesarly all at once.

Grab a pair of MXL 604 mics and an Audix i5 on kick.

Based on experience I can tell you this is an excellent set up for $300. I also just got done shooting out about 60 mics in various positions around the drum kit and these were a couple of the top performers in their price range period so...yes these will rock out.

Do you think with that set up, If I can figure out how to place the mics properly, that I wont need a snare mic?

Depends on if you want to bring the snare level up to the front. 3 mics gets a good balanced sound from the kit but if your mix gets dense the snare
may need to be miked to get it up above the fray.

I would get a kickball, a SM57 for the Snare and a pair of MSH=1c's for the overhead. In particular the SM57 and the MSH's will be usefull on other instruments.

Why the MSH1c's instead of the O's?

Ive decided, since im not going for a proffesional recording, that these MSH mics look really good, and I was thinking of two MSHO's for over heads, and maybe a MSH-1c for snare, and if it doesnt sound good there, guitar cab.

Used AKG D112 - $100
2 JM27 OHs - $100
1 Shure SM57 - $90

4 Mics, and can be used in other areas of recording besides drums.
