Yes, I can do that - it just scrapes in under the 3MB file size limit on attachments imposed by my ISP...

LOL! at BluesMeister :D do you use dial up connection? sometime it does bring pain in your head. try to upload at night when bandwith are alot more free. Dachay, thanks for the welcome. I'm downloading the original songs. I'm sorry i never heard these bands before (amborsia/little river band) but I do love them at first listen :) sweet sweet songs :)

I just found out that Comcraps f'd everything around on how our personal web space works :rolleyes:. The old link on the cakewalkers site won't work. Now I have to set up a freaking web page because you just can't see the index. Thanks a lot comcraps. :mad:. Here is the new one if anyone wants it. Should take you directly to the song dl.

Thanks mate, I'll update tonight at home. I've got this 'presentation' on in a couple of hours... it's the, "This is where the firm is going, do you have any questions?" presentation... there are going to be about 1300 or os of us there... with 2 (maybe 3) guys giving the presentation.

How did the presentation go? Were your knees just a blur??? :D Or were you just sitting in the audience?

OK then, BPOM is in four versions:

1) Converted at 192kbps file size 7,864kB
2) Converted at 128kbps file size 5,243kB
3) Converted at 112kbps file size 4,587kB
4) Converted at 96kbps file size 3,932kB

All too large to send as e-mail attachments. No 4 has too many drop outs and other nasties to be a viable alternative.

OK, BluesMeister, we've identified the problem and it looks like it's you. :D

I just tried to upload a file to the Yahoo Briefcase. First I tried it using Jagular's mp3 of BPOM. That file was just slightly over 5 megs, and it didn't upload. I got the following message, "You've tried to upload a file larger than the 5MB limit. Please select another file."

So I tried another mp3 file that I had available that was around 4 megs in size. That worked flawlessly. I deleted it after the upload so as not to use all of Porter's available space.

Bottom line, however, is this is going to present a problem. Because of the length of the song, it appears that mp3's encoded at 128 end up being around 5.2 meg in size. I'd hate to use anything less than 128.

Ideas anyone?

I could host various mixes along the way on my web space. As of right now I have 7 mb left even with the current version of BPOM on there. The file would just have to be emailed to me or something. Dunno if that helps or not...
 
We do have Moskus's friends site that we might have access to... failing that I have about 30Mb on my missus's site which I can also use... plus I think I can set up ftp accounts :D

Track 6 --> Marktrees --> CHIMES --> Loopwise chimes2

I also upload CHIMES soundfont there, in case you don't have it, but I can't make it with Blue Jay Drums soundfont. I guess most of you have it, right ? ;)

I also upload JSplit, freeware application to "split" any files without degrading the quality at all. I suggest using this to split our "too big" files into several smaller. It's uploaded under name JSplit.JA Just change the extension to .zip and extract the file. Read the readme, and we are ready to go...

James, good idea with the split tool. I had sent a message to BluesMeister suggesting he use WinZip to split up the file. Your's will probably work better.

Porter - do all the files need to be online? I imagine only the guy who is doing the mixing (is that you??) needs to have all the files. As parts come in, we (you?) can add them to one single file with all the parts. If we do that, we should only need to have one file mp3 online at a time (i.e., the work in process file).

We can either e-mail files to you (if your e-mail accepts 5+ meg files), use your wife's ftp storage, use moskus' storage, or split the files and upload them to the Yahoo Briefcase. I think any of these approaches will work, so long as everyone doesn't feel we need to have all the individual files available for everyone to download.

Thoughts?

Funnily enough it had occurred to me last night to split the file. :)
My ISP limits me to 3MB e-mail attachments, but that's no prob if we split it in twain... I will use Jaymz's file splitter utility.

May I humbly suggest we all use the same utility?

Yes, I concur that 128kbps is the conversion rate we should use. It's probably the best file size/quality compromise.

Porter you can delete that test file in BPOM folder if you wish.

As a general point of order, Mr Chairman, it occurs to me that we could post our individual This is me plus Jagular's vocals.MP3 somewhere (step forward one volunteer). Then the MixMasterGeneral gets the This is me on my ownsome but with one bar of synch clicks.MP3 for mixing.

Without that one bar of synch clicks it's going to be a nightmare (like it isn't already!!!)

FYI, I found the basic mp3 (Jagular's vocals and metronome) is slightly out of sync with the beat. If you import it to your Cakewalk, then make sure to manualy split first 120 ticks (Cakewalk time) and delete that part. Slide the rest audio portion all the way to the left (first measure). It all will be fine then.

I'm on my way to make the organ & synth tracks. Actualy I have already laid the raw part. However, I use my keyboard's internal sound. I wonder if I can find any VSC (or GM) sound which everyone of us has it (DXi ? soundfont?), so I wouldn't have to upload mp3 files, but .mid or .cpw with infos instead. We'll be in touch...

OK, maybe a basic .cwp file with MIDI in it might be the best for everyone....but then again, HS2002/2004 users won't be albe to read those files will they? Maybe just MIDI files with the split/slide option.

For the MIDI tracks, if we just use general MIDI with a similar patch then the person who is recording the 'final' for that track uses their own patch/synth to produce the sound... does that sound fair?

Just adding... I've cleaned up the briefcase...

There is now a Utilities folder with the JSplit utility in it.
There is now a Sound Fonts folder which has the 'Chimes' in it.

I have deleted Blues test.txt file

I also agree about the intro containing the 'clicks' for the first bar.. Jaymz, would you like to work that into your MIDI file for us.

As for Jagular's initial vocal... we all have that to work as a basis off.. I'll update the who's doing what tonight with the following info:

Jaymz: Synth/Strings
Clemie: Piano
BluesMeister: Guitar
dachay2tnr (and co.): Backing vocals (dachay2tnr, if you need an extra voice I'll put my hand up)
Porter: Bass (if no one else will..)
Do we have a volunteer for the MixMasterGeneral ?

Maybe if we also work out a rough order of which to complete this in also...

BTW... WTF is Pedullist????

If no one else wants to, I would be quite pleased to mix this (I think??). However I don't have an ftp spot where everyone can upload files to. So either they will have to e-mail them to me, or upload them somewhere else where I can download from.

Ultimately I would like wave files from everyone, but I'll work with mp3's to get the intial mix.

Here is the order I imagine:

Scratch track - done
Scratch track with scratch vocals - done
Drum tracks - done (needs to mixed to an mp3) and remove click from scratch track.
Bass track (and remove bass from scratch track) - ???
Rhodes - is someone doing this to replace the one in the scratch track??
Piano, synth, strings, guitar (these can be done in any order)
Final lead vocal track
BG Vox track

I think pedulist is not playing with us. So you or Paul have got the bass part, Porter.

Excellent suggestion regarding working with the MIDI file. I may get the opportunity to bash off another attempt at the guitar tomorrow (I'm having a day off from work.)

Do you want to have a go at the blistering guitar solo, or are you happy for me to handle all the guitar parts? (Other than the Bass - I rekon Porter could handle that.)

BTW, my approach to this particular project is not to attempt a slavish copy of the original. Is that what you guys had in mind?

Even though its so UNCOOL, for those of us in the U.S. 37 cents and 3 days at most gets you 700 meg by snail mail :) You can do whatever resolution you like at that rate even REAL WAV FILES:D :D :D :D :D

Actually I think it runs about $1.10 or so to mail a CD in the US. :D

However, mailing wave files on a CD is exactly what I had in mind for the final mix at end of the project. We can just use mp3's in the interim to help speed along the process.
