it seems that if Jagular vetoes BPOM, Bluesmeister is volunteering to handle the scratch track for Reminiscing (since he'll be the only one who can play a C13#11). :)

Oh right. Glad to see we aren't trying anything too difficult then:)

Obviously something that should have worked for more than 5 years. :D

Paul, you need to upgrade "that" to XL version obviously... :D

Brutha's... I must appology, my system is not in good condition by now. I didn't know what went wrong... Some application just cannot be opened anymore. I'm searching here and there around computer's forum about my symptom, I'm awared this could be new kind of viruses attack... I already lost alot of document (MsWord & Excel)... they just dissapear... boof... the folder remains there, but no longer contains files... I thought "it" only attacks Office's files, but it's now going to attack my other folder... same case... the folder remains, the files within are erased... No clue what triggers it... Tried Norton Antivirus Demo, and report no viruses... Panda Antivirus (free) catched 3 viruses (KW32 something...), and PC-Cillin 2000 reports no viruses... Some apps even running out of control... shut down the PC right after start it... Reinstalling the whole system ain't bring me no luck (..but extending my turn to use LivesynthPro demo off course :D)... it even erased several .wrk, .cwp, etc. files  Gee...
Does anyone know about it ?

Wow, James, that sounds pretty bad. I haven't seen or heard anything like that.

Fortunately my DAW is at least two floors away from the closest internet connection. I guess if I had a reeeeeeeal long wire I could get in some trouble...

Are you serious that a complete hard disk reformat did not cure it? Did you low level format it as well (Fdisk?). Might be worth trying. I don't know how any virus could still be there after that.

Moskus, if you want to know what "that" was, go see part 2 of my latest post in the ADD thread...;)

James, thats bad luck, but as dachay says, after fdisk, no virus can survive.

Jaymz,

Don't panic until you've explored every avenue. Norton Utilities are probably as good as you can get, but you will have to pay handsomely to get the best there is.

As always, never use cracked or pirated software.

Run REGEDIT and hunt around to look for dodgy applications that you didn't install. You can delete them, but take great care. Screwing with your Registry can disable your PC. :( I've fiddled and poked around in there without major drama.

1) To restore accidentally deleted files, you can try R-Undelete shareware program to see if it works.

2) Get a good FireWall.
Zone Alert is free and works very well.

3) Regularly run MSCONFIG to see what's running behind your back. Uncheck anything you see in a temporary folder or running from your e-mail directory.

4) Take care downloading MP3s. They can be a source of Trojans.

Dachay is quite right, it really is the best solution to have a second system for Internet & E-Mail and have your DAW as a stand-alone. Transfer files from your DAW via re-writable CD.

To date, I haven't suffered a major hack-attack, but with my son & daughter regularly surfing, I guess it's only a matter of time...

I'm surprised there isn't some kind of log file built into Windows that records every thing coming into the PC. Of course, the knowledgable hacker will have taken this into account when writing the virus software.

Jaymz, a boot sector virus can be tough to beat even with a format! There are ways though. Its all out there on the net.
I actually use feeav which is a free antivirus program for individual users. It updates evey few days and I have had good luck with it. havent had a virus since installing it a couple years ago.
Someone at work had a virus on their PC a few years back and it passed around the whole place on floppys! It was a boot sector virus and it kept coming back because a bunch of us were infected and shared discs. IT played havoc for quite a while until we started discarding and not trusting floppys from others.
Dont run ANYTHING without doing a virus check!

Trojans in mp3's  That really sucks. havent heard of that one before! Amazing I have not picked one up :)

Ps that adware is amazing as well!
Who the heck is doubleclick, Id like to ring their neck!

Peace
Bill

I've only heard of viruses now being transmitted in MIDI files... THere is a problem in Windows... there is a Microsoft document on it... I have the link at work (now at home ;-) ).

I used to always think that you needed to do a low level format to get rid of a boot sector virus???

Yup

Thanks for all your concern, bruthas... I love you all :)

Well, indeed my DAW is infected by (still uncertain known) viruses. When I burn one of Ms word document to CD and opened it in my office's PC, it gave me viruses allert. I eject the CD screaming... "Holly Hendrix... what the heck is goin' on...?" The document I brought is urgently needed by the company on the meeting that morning, so I couldn't print it. Then I contacted the IT departement to help me out. Thank God we do have very good IT departement down here (...hey, it's software company anyway, eh :D ). We checked it with Girisoft AV, and we found 4 different kind of virus. All infecting and spreading thru Ms Offices documents. Lucky they can be dissinfected and the meeting safely continue :)

Then we discuss about the virus. He suggested me to do

A:>format /mbr

from clean trustable floppy bootable disk. That's what I do now. But still I need to re-install the whole system all over again to make sure. I'm not sure where did I get this viruses, but I guess it's time to upgrade my AV software immediately (I use PC Cillin 2000 now...). No cracked/ilegal software in my PC. No Kazaa. etc. About downloading mp3, the clinic won't hurt you... will it ? So far I only download mp3 over the clinic... No, I guess it can't be the clinic... MIDI files ? ....hmmmm

Thanks guys.
;)
Jaymz <-- had to start many things all over again... :(

Yes Bill, I was quite taken aback, too when I found out about that.

My son has downloaded many MP3s some of which presumably had been Trojanised. For a while my Explorer home page had been hijacked to some site I'd never heard of. I was also getting porn site pop-ups whenever I clicked onto the Explorer icon. My modem hadn't even completed dialling in, but there was this porn site front page sitting on my screen!

I fired up MSCONFIG to see what was running and then did some sniffing around my hard drive and found a little program sitting in my OE temporary file files folder that was the culprit. I deleted the program and cleaned up my Registry of the offending entries.

I installed Ad-Aware and ran it regularly. I didn't have any further trouble after that.

Now, if only I could get rid of the mounds of spam I get at work!

Reminiscing
OK then, the Collaboration: I've started laying down Reminiscing in CakeWalk. If anybody wants a CakeWalk WRK file (or MIDI file if you prefer) of the intro and a couple of chords into verse 1, just PM me with your home e-mail address and I'll bung a copy over to you. I've put in the intro bass-line and some rudimentary drumming.

If you are all prepared to wait, I can complete the tune and will add on guitar chord-charts. Let me know.

I'm sitting freezing my butt off at the moment in my study and my neck's sore, so I won't be doing any more work on Reminiscing tonight.

I'm sitting here freezing my butt off as well...temps of 35 deg C or 100 deg F:eek:

Who says the UK doesn't have any summers?

Bluesmeister, best of luck with the Reminiscing track:cool:

yup, the last couple of days here were 109 and 107 degrees f. this is the worst part of the year here

Reminiscing

I hope I'm not wasting my time here good buddies :)

So far Reminiscing is 64kbB in size. (It's a *.WRK file, all VSC DXi, no audio)

Currently it comprises:

Intro
Four beat count in (sticks)
Electric Piano playing the opening riff
Bass guitar
Kick drum

Verse 1
Piano chords
Drums

That's as far as I've taken it.

Verse 2 just repeats V1 chords & drums.

The Chorus looks simple enough - a bit of cutting & pasting will fix that.

The Intro riff with full accompaniment follows the first chorus.

Verse 3 is the same chords as V1 & V2

Repeat chorus.

Coda - more cut & paste to sort that.

What will take some time though is the guitar chord charts.

Porter
Do you want to post the tune as it currently is on the Project Page? Or would you prefer a MIDI file?

I must say, I was playing the tune to death on the MiniDisc player while I was transposing it into HS, and it really is a nice tune. Whomsoever choseth this for the first collab project choseth extremely wisely (well, Little River Band is an Aussie band!) :)

For those unfamiliar with the piece, I can include a melody line if you so desire - it'll just take me a bit longer to finish it though.

Bluesmiester:
Well post what youve got Id like to hear it and many here are as anxious Im sure!
I have not even had time to breath lately so I have made no attempt yet. I did a refresh listen to the song and it is an excellent and challenging choice.

BTW Did you master that C13#11 :D :D :D

I did :D

but I have to put it on its own track and just pop it in where its called for because once I finger it I cant move in and out of it :)

Were going to rename you Gumbymiester LOL

Peace
Bill

Well...shit on a shingle. Looks like we have both of them going. Dach sent me a scratch track of "Biggest Part Of Me". I will be testing the waters on that one with a scratch vocal in the next few days (I had to get my 2002 1040 done this weekend). I would be glad to throw a scratch vocal on Reminiscing too once a full scratch track is done.

Hey...we could always do both of them :D

dachay2tnr & BluesMeister,

dachay2tnr, You’re The Biggest Part of Me, I'm guessing is almost finished, Blue, how is Reminiscing going?

If you guys would like to either forward me the MID file or wrk file... prefereably a MIDI file and I'll put it up on the site... send it to my yahoo account.. you both have the address.

Now just in case I move it in the future, the web site address is:

http://cakewalkers.hopto.org

I'll put the MIDI files up there for people to start to work on recording backing tracks.. I'd like to put up almost completed or at lease MIDI files that have the complete song in them (ie chord progressions).

I'll also pop up the tab's to both songs, dachay2tnr, if you can e-mail me the chord progression. The version which I looked at didn't sound right.

As each track is completed.. I'll have to find my yahoo storage account where we can put the mp3 files of each track... or the server which moskus is looking into... otherwise we get a couple of yahoo storage accounts..

As for backing vocals I can do some high vocals.. have a listen to my original version of Feelings Don't Just Disappear . I'm pretty sure I can pull that off again.

I'll update the site tonight my time (9:30am here atm).

The scratch track for BPOM is finished. I sent Jagular an mp3 of it last week.

However, Jag isn't sure he can sing it. So, before I post it on Porter's site, we should wait for Jag to chime in. No sense in everyone wasting their time if we don't have a lead singer for it.

Porter, I'm not sure I can give you the chord progression. A lot of it was done by ear using a keyboard in PRV in Sonar. Anyone know if there a way I can generate tablature using the midi track?

This is the chord progression I found... do you want to work off this:

Biggest Part Of Me - Ambrosia

The chord voicings for the verses are:

D/A Amaj7 A13
x0777x x0665x x0567x

F#m7/A Bm/A G13/A
x0465x x0443x x0345x

Bm7-5/A A
x0343x x0222x

Verse 1:

D/A Amaj7 A13
(Sunrise) There's a new sun a-risin'
F#m7/A Bm/A G13/A
(In your eyes) I can see a new horizon
Bm7-5/A A
(Realize) That would keep me realizin'
B9 Bm7/E
You're the biggest part of me

(Stay the night) Need your lovin' here beside me
(Shine the light) Need you close enough to guide me
(All my life) I've been hopin' you would find me
You're the biggest part of me

Chorus:

Em7/A Dmaj7
Well, Make a wish baby
C#m7 F#m7
[1, 2: Well and now] we'll make it come true
[3: Oh with time]
Em7/A Dmaj7
Make a list baby
C#m7 F#m7
Of the things I'll do for you

Em7/A Dmaj7
Ain't no risk now
C#m7 F#m7
Let my love rain down on you
B7sus4 B7
So we could wash away the past
Bm7/E E7 Bm7/E E7
So that we may start anew

Verse 2:

(Rainbow) Risin' over my shoulder
(Love flows) Gettin' better as we're older
(All I know) All I wanna do is hold her
She's the life that breathes in me

(Forever) Got a feelin' that forever
(Together) We are gonna stay together
(Never) For me there's nothing better
You're the biggest part of me

[repeat chorus]

Bridge:

F#m7 C#m7
(Oh) More than an easy feelin'
She brings joy to me
How can I tell you what it means to me?
Flowin' like a lazy river
For an eternity
I finally found someone who believes in me
And I'll never be ???
Now I've found all I need

[guitar and sax solos over verse chords]

[repeat chorus]

Verse 3:

(Beside me) Need your lovin' here beside me
(To guide me) Keep it close enough to guide me
(Inside of me) From the fears that lie inside of me
You're the biggest part of me

(Forever) Got a feelin' that forever
(Together) We'd always stay together
(Forever) And from now until forever
You're the biggest part of me
You're the life that breathes in me
You're the biggest part of me

Coda:

You've changed my life
You made it bright
I'll be a servant to you
For the rest of my life

------------
Regards,
Porter
