What can I do?

Finish your song first, it's your top priority for now :)

(cause I really like to hear the final :) )

then...

...jump in the collaboration :D

...now, who got a song ?

But I got a good song for the coloboration.....

Umh, yeah... that's my wish list, Bill :)

Anyway, we need file transfer server to transfer data among others. Any volunteer ?

Better yet... anyone know how to do that ? :D

the last time we did collaboration is by sending MIDI files only, and that's not quite fun :) we need to transfer .cwb / bundled / wave also :)

;)

Check this out and see if anyone is interested in it. It was the first song I put together with home recording and posted so it really needs a remake and some suggestions. But It may have some possibilities.

why not just post the tracks to nowhere as individual tracks?
scratches head, seems like that would work.

Worst case senario I can volunteer some space... about 30Mb..

If we have a MIDI file with 2 tracks... chords played on Piano and a Durm track... everyone builds on it from there. save each track as an mp3 using the variable bit rate to save space and not sacrifice quality (say 192 k/bit)

Porter

Hey, that's a good idea :) You can be "Project Manager" Bill :D

I thought mp3 format is not realy recomended, but hey... it's first attempt, right ? :D Lets see what we can do :)

btw, I'm downloading while typing... the boss is not around yet, but probably will be here at any moments. It's 08:00 AM in the morning and I'm in the office :) So, I may "quit" unnoticed for now :(

Later, guys :)

Porter what did you have in mind for a song, do you have a rough draft? check out the one of mine in the above post that needs help. lemme know what you think.

What does a project manager do?
Since your more familiar and it was your idea to begin with and I run out of time more often than not. Jaymz its all yours my friend. Unless someone else desires it. Porter are you interested in overseeing it.

We Did one a short while back which chrissharris submitted to the mixing clinic as a mixing challenge and we used mp3's and it came out pretty good.

I'll have a read of your lyrics... I can't download the song from work :( I'll download it tonight... I finish work at 6pm.. it's 11:41am here atm.

The song I was thinking about was:

So I'll Dream

There chords are played in an open chord structure... ie

A: 577600
E: 079900
D: 057700
G: 355400

I'm imagining it with a 'driving' sort of beat..

Porter

Well, my mistake... :o I meant to say Porter to be the Project manager, cause he had the server :) His job is nothing but dealing with files traffic :D Someone who finnished his part can tell Porter to upload it, and next member can enhance it with his part :) Or...

So we got two songs... I'm still in the office, I'm downloading them for listening purpose only now :) I'll get it in the afternoon back home :)

So, there's three of you: Dachay, You, and Jagular on vox :)
Moskus, BluesMeister, Guitar Ed, and Paul on Guitar.
Me on Keyboards/Violin.
Clemie on Piano.
Pedullist on Basses.
Who's gonna make the beat ?

Hey, that's not an incident :) My MIDI orchestra master piece works the best for accapela :D

Count me in :D

vox is about the only thing I can do decently.

Erm...Jagular thinks he better listen to the songs before he gets himself into something not to flattering :D.

But even so, I could at least pull off some BG vox :).

I don't mind being an 'over-see'er'

I actually just signed up with Yahoo for 30MB free web hosting space... we should be able to put up a midi file... someone works on say a bass (Peddy), guitars (whoever), vocals (whoever), backing vocals (whoever) and drums (someone, otherwise as previously mentioned)... when we each finish out part we post it.. someone can put up a basic 'mix' to see what we have so far so everyone can record using that as a backing, then submitting just their part.. then the mix is re-done and it goes from there... when we have all the parts they can all be put online then we can each re-mix it... if extra space is needed then we may need to pool resources..

If we export the audio and encode it at 192k.. instead of 128k it shouldn't sound too bad... variable bit rate will reduce the file size.. ie when it is silent it won't chew up any space.

How does that sound?

Porter

I still dont understand why Id want someone elses midi file. It wont sound right unless I have all the soundfonts set correctly and the same, that is if i have them. So excuse my ignorance but could someone explain why exchanging midi files is needed?

MIDI... if we use say the virtual sound canvas... we can just get a basic idea of how the song will sound... General Midi (GM) sounds are all the same... including the standard drum kit.

Porter

YES!!!

we've just "signed" Jagular

Yippie

weve got all we need for a hit

Elaboration On The Collaboration

Hey boys!,

Don't start the collab just yet - I'm only about 75% the way through assembling my new PC! I picked up the P4 chip on Saturday and I'm still wondering where to stick it. Any ideas? :D

I'll go with you guys, just give me a song with altered 5ths and minor 3rds and I'll be in flattened 7th heaven... :)

With Dr Zero Zero Eight on the Durm track* we can't go wrong!

*Durms - that's a great word Porter, I really like that!

Don't make it to easy ;) Just kidding... have you built a PC before?

Gotta love those typo's.. the first time I read your post I thought when you said that's a great word I read word as words and thought you were referring to my lyrics.. DOH!!

Porter

Hey we just might have enough folks interested to do 2 songs:D for the HR 3 CD!

guess I should practice my DURMing :) just in case thats a weak point. I know its mine LOL, followed closely by singing, then hearing, then playing guitar.

I bought a set of v drums and have had NO time to practice, even when ive been physically able to do so which hasnt been much the last 5 months.

Hey bluesmiester, about that chip, what speed did you get, just curious?

Porter
No I haven't attempted building a PC from scratch before - although I have lobbed in the odd bits & pieces when upgrading.

Wfaraoni
It's a P4 2.4GHz 533MHz FSB

The difference in cost between the 2.4 & the 2.6 was around AUD$100, so there was no way I could warrant the extra cost for the increase in speed.

Also the difference in cost between the Hyperthreading 2.4 and little ol' mine is nothing short of criminal. How do they get away with it?

You may want to pop over to the Computer Recording & Soundcards board where there is a plaintive cry for help from me... :)
