Hmm. Well I back up my sessions on CDR after I am done with the mix and everything else. I delete the session from my HD and only work with the one mixed .wav. You are correct I can speed up the PC.

The speed was the biggest issue for me. The difference is waiting 2 minutes to add an effect to a vocal, or waiting 10 seconds to add an effect...

I know a lot of people don't care but, I'm trying to get work done in a timely manner

I use about 100 MB per session and usually end up with roughly 1.2 GB (2 CDs) for a whole song.

note: I use 2 x 80GB HDDs and regurlarly "close non-session waves" to tidy up workspace.

I was more interested in how sloppy everybody else is. If I have drums, bass, 3 or 4 guitars, and 50 vocals D), I usually save all the tracks as dry tracks once I get a take that doesn't make me vomit, then I screw around with them a lot before I clean up the session. Yup, about 3.5 GB per tune. I'm sloppy.

That's why I stopped comping everything. It becomes a real pain trying to manage all the files and then you have to go back and find all the good parts. Now I just do straight punch ins most of the time to keep it simple. Then I can spend more time mixing and less time editing.

Hey Texroadkill, Where did you come up with those numbers for
drive use in 24 bit?

I dont think it is anywhere near that high.

Maybe double for 24 bit from 16 bit
