I'm a complete newbie to recording, and I have a question. If I'm using Cubase SK to record music, and I have a mixer with 2 guitars, a bass and a mic plugged into it, and the mixer is running into the LINE IN port on my computer, will the guitar record to one track on Cubase, the other guitar to another, the base to a third and another one for the mic, or will they be recorded into one track?

I think I read somewhere that I would use the mixer to make a roguh mix and then get the guitar to play along with the rough mix to record it's track, and then the bass to play along with the rough mix and record it's track second, etc, etc, but can anyone confirm this for me?

Also, like I said, I'm a complete newbie so any links to beginner's tutorials would be much appreciated ^_^

Firstly you need to tell us what kind of mixer you are using, and what kind of sound card you are using. For example a digital mixer with adat into a sound card with adat would allow you to record on separate tracks if you set it up to do so. If you are using an analog mixer with 2-4 or 8 buses (outputs) going into individual inputs on a soundcard than you could record them separately as well. If you are using your main outputs from your mixer going into something like a soundblaster card via 1/8th inch mini jack, you will be recording everything together with no option for individual track separation in a live recording situation. You can however overdub your parts. Meaning record a bass part, than layer additional guitar parts and such over the bass line. Hope this helps.
