alright well heres the deal

I just bought a sm57 and two MXL 603s's as overheads

I have tryed a lot of placement in my room but they always have to be at like 1 or 2 volume

well that is kinda expected I suppose since they are condenser mics

but the real problem is the fact that whenever I have them at regular EQ with just everything even I get this aweful noise with the cymbles and a little with the snare

so I end up turning the treble down a little but then it sorta seems to sound all compressed and led zepish (which is not always a bad thing)

I need some help cause I have these really nice mics but I'm kinda frusterated at how they can sound so shitty

I used the three mic system with a pair of 603's for awhile, with a D112 in the Kick hole. Mine were place about 4-6 feet above the snare in an X/Y config. It worked pretty well. Here's a pic of them -

Psych, how are you placing your overheads? That's probably themost important part of it. THIS ARTICLE is very good. It explains the different ways to mic drums and thr pros and cons of each method. Good luck.

Rami speaks truth. Check the article out. Ultimately, you need to try many different things and listen carefully to each of them - then decide which you like best.

There were mics in that picture? All I saw was naked women with crack showing. :D
