Hi all,

I am trying use the audio from monitor outputs 1-8 on the 1884 to create another monitor mix on a separate board, and I am not getting audio on 3-8. I get a master mix on 1-2, but the rest are silent. I read the manual and set the output to 1-8 on the Tascam control panel, and also used the F keys to make sure I was monitoring the analogs.

Does anyone have any ideas? Have I missed something? Am I mistaken in my thought that those outputs should reflect the individual inputs on the 1884?

Any help is appreciated.

Best Regards,

JK

FWIW 90 days later, You are mistaken. There is no one to one connection between the inputs and outputs.

When you select Monitor mode (w/ the [MonMix] button) the 8 inputs mix to analog outputs 1 & 2. This is how you can use the FW-1884 as a standalone mixer without a computer connected.

In the Control Panel you can set "Audio Monitoring" to 3 different states:
  • Monitor Level Affects Analog 1-2
  • Monitor Level Affects Analog 1-6
  • Monitor Level Affects Analog 1-8

This selects which outputs are controlled by the Monitor knob. Any audio outputs left out run at whatever level the computer sends to them and the level isn't affected by the monitor knob. These settings correspond to expected uses as Stereo, 5.1 Surround, or 7.1 Surround output configurations. It's up to your applications to send audio to each port. The Monitor knob will control the level of whatever outputs are assigned to it, mixed with whatever is present at the inputs (Audio 1-8, ADAT 1-8, and SFDIF 1 & 2 and these port are usually iterated in this order so if your app lists them as "FW-1884 Output 1 + 2" then Analog out 1 is "FW 1884 Output 1", ADAT 1 is "FW 1884 Output 9" and SPDIF 2 is "FW-1884 Output 18", likewise the input ports).

Happy Twiddling everybody!
