Okay, guys,. . .I have read a lot about how the heads should and need to be demagnetized. But, what is the best method, or correct procedure on how to demagnetize a Tascam 424 properly, without screwing things up . .and what is the better demagnetizer to use, or buy. Thanks!

Thanks for the info FM. . .

So, what brand, or model would you recommend to demagnetizing a Tascam 424. . .? any particular ones work better, or better suited for the tight space of the 424?. . .

The TEAC E1 should do just fine for you and they're readily available on E-bay and elsewhere.

Cheers! :)

Thanks again FM. . . !

Hmmm so, you think that the E1, is better for getting into the heads area of the 424's the a wand type demagnetizer, like the Nakamichi demagnetizer or something like that. . . I'm not challenging your gracious help, . .just curious :)

I'm not familiar with the Nakamichi so I couldn't really comment on it?

The E1 from TEAC is probably the most widely used D-mag wand on the market and is suitable for cassette decks and open reel gear too.

Some of the real finicky guys like a product called the Hand-D-Mag which is also a similar design to the TEAC but is said to offer a much stronger electro-magnetic field which may or may not be 100% necessary and especially so for a cassette deck.

Cheers! :)

Yes, thats the other one!

The Hand-D-Mag, . .! I have heard of that one too. But, if the E-1 is the most common and is industry standard. . might as go with that one!
Thanks FM. . !!!

quick question!

If I need to demagnetize my heads on a 424 mkII, can I use one of those cheap 'Radio Shack' demoralizers in a pinch, .. or would it do more harm than good?

Thanks!
