help wanted!

bit of a frantic cry here. I own a tascam 488mk2, it has been perfect up to now. But now (for no reason I can see) track 1 becomes quiet and distorted when the track is put into the mixdown setting. It is totally normal in mic/line and tape settings, but when I got to mixdown the track just becomes inaudible.

naturally I am pretty pissed about this, has anyone had this problem before? can it be fixed? Help!

Have you tried cleaning the heads?

Not sure what the "mixdown" setting does on that machine...but maybe it's some crud on channel 1 of the playback head...?

Or maybe its the actual switch that flips between those settings that needs some cleaning on it's contact points.....?
