Are YOU a smokin country-rock player? Huh? Well? No you say? Then get the heck out of my smokin country rock thread man. :D :D

Here's the deal kids:

A friend of mine wrote a country-rock lil ditty and I owe her a big favor. She's a classical musician (pro) but is dabbling in songwriting. Its VERY straightforward and should be FUN, its your typical blues-country rock thingee. It would be a lot of fun if we can put together a lil smokin backup band, nice and tight and groovy and nailing some pretty easy stuff.

Ummm, I know as much about this kind of music as rocket science, which is zilch. I am the ultimate classical nerd. I'm frightened, hold me. :(

We need:

Drums
Guitar

Maybe Bass
MAYBE Background vox which would go in before the lead vocal. I dont really know, I am making this up as I go.

If you play something else, I am open to any ideas except oboe. Or contra-bassoon. Or harpsichord. Or pan flute ( or that "other" flute for you guys with potty mouth).

I will play keyboards and, err, umm, gasp... fiddle. :o :o :o Maybe I will play my electric, I am a LOUSY "fiddler". :o

We should do it soon, like a few days. Again, its gonna be your standard straight-ahead stuff, so it should be easy and fun.

Who's in? Are YOU in? Huh?

We can do high-quality mp3s via email, its not gonna end up on Sony, its just a fun lil demo for a friend. THANKS!!

I would love to be part of this Davidk, I would love to hear exactly what you have in store!

I will contribute if I am worthy! :) :)

I can do the drums......though you probably think I suck and would rather someone else do them.....that's fine.

Cool guys! I dont think anyone sucks, if anyone will it will be me on, err,umm,gasp...fiddle :o .

I will get something together today and should have a sketch by tonite. In classical lingo its your basic I-IV-V-I stuff in C.

I will try to put up something on soundclick that people can download and mess with. I will out down a BASIC drum thingy if I can get my drum machine working. The guitar stuff I will leave to the guitarist. I will put in some goofy patch to show where the vox goes.

I'll be back...

I look forward to the challenge! :)

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at some of the guitar if you don't already have it covered.

The more the merrier!

I am good at editing, I will arrange it that I will leave some room for some solos, stuff like that.

Before I get ahead of myself, I better lay something down today. Trust me, its nothing groundbreaking.

OK fellers, she sent a midi file.

WARNING:

THIS IS AS RUDIMENTARY AS MUSIC GETS :D :D :D

Which gives us a real challenge to make this into something good!!!

SO, its self-explanitory: the Marimba thingy  Is vox, the piano is apparently the chords. I believe this is literally a three chord song so run and get your theory books :D ITs in C and tempo is 120. Around 1:50 there seem to be 8 measures of C, lets take turn with solos.

I am the king of editing, just play something dammit! We can do mp3s at 192 or higher. When you have something, PM me and I will give you my email. I will post the various parts and assemble it. THIS AINT ROCKET SCIENCE :D

for the fellers

OH: IF anyone wants to take a crack at singing it, PM me for the lyrics. That would be groovy. If she wants to sing we can make two versions, its sung in a man's POV anyway.

For those about to Country-Rock.......................We salute you.

I can help with this! Here's what you do:

OK, put one finger (doesn't matter which one, but you will need at least two fingers, so if you lost more than two feudin' with the neighbors, you'll have to try pedal steel instead) on the D string, second position. As you know, that's an E, but don't tell country folk that, you tell 'em "this note's an Eeee", and they'll think you're squealin' like a hawg. That might give 'em ideas you'd rather not they have

Take your other good finger, and put it third position on the A string. Using technical jargon, play a quadruple stop on that chord until the cows come home, or until the song changes to the IV, whichever comes first.

Be sure to clasp your bow firmly but rudely--the frog should fit snugly in the palm of your hand--and dig in! Saw that fiddle like you're in the Stihl lumbersports championship final!!

If you make it through the soundboard in one song, you'll be rewarded with rebel yells and beer bottles thrown against the chicken wire! :D ;)

That sounds awfully complicated. For that authentic fiddle sound I was gonna:

A. Not brush my teeth for a long time

B. Carry my violin in a sack.

:D

PS. MS, grab your axe if you wanna play along...

Well, country is not my cup of tea, but if you end up neededing some back or lead vocals I would give it a shot just for the purpose of helping me practice my tracking skills as well as contribute back to this forum :)
