If anyone could help me...

I have a:
sony vaio rx570,
512 MB SDRAM
Pentium 4 1.8GHz

Any time that record is pressed in Acid or Vegas LE, I get a low level hum/buzz, that basically ruins any recordings.
I am using an AT 3525 condenser mic, but i get the noise without anything plugged in. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks

soundcard

Hi the sound is

soundmax integrated audio. will i need to purchase a sound card?

I'd strongly urge you to consider a new card.

But just for grins, see if you can get the noise using windows recorder or some other program.

I haven't heard much "good" about that card. Only complaints.

Its built onto the motherboard, correct? If so, maybe you can go into your system's BIOS and shut it off (once you get a new card.)

Chances are, you'll be happier with a better sound card any way.

But which one? Ah... welcome to the world of computer recording!

Your best bet is to first decide what you expect to use with the card.... Midi? Guitar? Bass? Microphones?

Then you can choose from a gazillion manufacturers, each claiming to be the best at what they do.

I'd recommend the M-Audio Audiophile and Delta cards but there plenty of other choices too.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thanks For the info - I will look into a new sound card.

By the way... no problems at all with windows sound recorder!?!?!

Thanks again!

Just a shot in the dark,

But be sure that the Mic input is shut off. I had a problem once where I was recording via Line in and kept getting a weird hollow sound. I realized that the mic on my monitor was active. Funnier yet, I shut that mic down, and still had a problem. Turned out my web cam had a mic that was open as well. Double check those first. Good luck,

I had a similar problem.

I had a similar problem, but I had a Hecules game theater xp. I found the solution when I double-clicked the little speaker icon in the right-hand corner of the screen. Then I went under options to properties. Then I went to "adjust volume for" and clicked the radio button for recording. Then It has boxes for you to check for all of the volume controls. Select all of the boxes and then hit ok. You might find that there is a volume that you needed to lower that wasn't previously noticable. Since I use the volume controls that came with my sound card, I found that the "Stereo Mix" selection had to be completly lowered otherwise I would recieve a nasty hiss....Hope this makes sense and helps.........

Hi, I have the same frustrating &%¤#¤¤ problem! It makes you loose the inspiration for writing music very fast as I guess youve noticed :)

But everyone Ive talked to says that if you get hiss on your recording its likely your soundcard is not good enough.
I jsut started looking into this but what I hear is that M audio has a couple of good cards. The one most mentioned is "Audiophiles 2496". its about 300$. the one below that is Sound Blaster live 5.1, but many think this is too crappy and not fast enough. But this is just what I hear.

My computer is weird, cause I get hiss everytime I record through a musicprogram (cubase, acid etc) but not when i only record sound with wave-recorders(soundlaster wave studio etc) does anyone know why? bad soundcard again?

Could be drivers, could be something else...

The soundcards that are built onto the Motherboards of many computers are pretty lame. You'd be well served to get a card like the Audigy or M-Audio audiophile ($159.95) - depends on what you want to do and of course (drum roll please) your budget.

Identify your soundcard and make sure you have the current drivers - then worry about all the other stuff.

And be sure you have current versions of your software, too.

Sound Forge and Acid are now on version "F."
