I have just recently gotten a JV1010 and I am baffled. Getting this made me realize how little i know about midi and its uses and possibilities.

There's a knob that changes the mode between patch, performance, rhythm, and GM, what's the difference?

I mean i know the patch mode plays the difference patches and i got that under control, but does the performance do the same thing? I have the manual but it is horribly written and doesn't cover half the things this box can do. I am no interested in programming all these tracks together to make the huge performance with multi-instruments.

I also heard there are effects. Can i use them on a patch? If so how...i can get it into edit mode but turning the bank knob makes no sense because if i change something like reverb send, it doesn't seem to change the sound at all. So can i apply effects to a patch?

Please direct me to any sites or helpful information. I really need some help. I didn't think this would be that hard for me to understand.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

Okay - at first it seems a little confusing, but once you learn Rolandese, it gets better, I promise.

JV1010 is a powerful little bougar under the hood. Check synthzone, (I think somewhere on the net there's a whole friggin' forum dedicated to jv synths and the like)

AND - if you can fork out the long distance, the good ol' folks at Roland http://www.rolandus.com have fantastic phone support.

My advise is to get you a cell phone with the unlimited long distance, and then start dialing away. Those guys will walk you through the whole thing. But, be sure you have all your questions in a row, ready to ask. Otherwise, you'll be off the phone, and no further than you were before.

Performance mode puts the 1010 in multitimbral mode which either allows you to layer or split up to 16 sounds across the range of your keyboard controller or assign sounds to a part which in turn responds to its own unique MIDI channel. The part mode is what allows you to trigger multiple different patches at the same time for an multi instrument arrangment.

You cannot edit patches from the front panel of the 1010. You will need to install the Sound Diver software to make any tweaks to effects for any given patch.
