i have a digital piano..

i also have cakewalk sonar 2

i also have an audiophile 2496

i also have a soundblaster (which i use right now temporarily for speakers..)

i want to play on the keyboard and make cakewalk write down the notes on the staff..

i've seen it before somewhere,

however i haven't used calkwalk or any other midi programs before..

so.. can someone please help me set the devices up?

the midi out of my piano goes into the midi in of my audiophile and the lights go on when i press on the keys..

Come on, this is very basic stuff and there are walk-throughs in the manual and in the online help, and some third-party ones on the web...

In your cakewalk Go to "Options > midi Devices" and make sure everything is blocked. Then insert a midi track and select a channel and arm the track. Go to "View > Staff" and hit the rec button and play. You will get the notes in the staff. If not check the Options.

i didn't know i was supposed to press record.. i thought it just did it on it's own..

silly me..

that is why it was suggested you go through the manual or the tutorials with the software...really...they help.
