1st GOAL: To record bass guitar, electric guitar, @ least 1 singer, and drums (3 mics) at the best possibly quality with my availalbe tools.

2nd GOAL: To record all of the above simultaneously so I can record while the band is playing live.

I'll be mainly doing rock, alternative/progressive, and sometimes classic music. Any advice or places where you all think I could find good deals would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

nice setup! :)

here're some essensials I find missing:
- pair of nice monitors
- nice preamp/s
- nice condensor vox mic/s

Thanks Leeking :D . Unfortunately, I'm debating between the RNC, cymbals, and SansAmp Classic since I have to decide on only one to get since my excess funds aren't abundant (university student .:o ).

A second hard drive for your computer.

Put your operating system and tracking software on one drive and then set up your tracking software so that it uses the other drive for storing your tracks.

:D already have that :D ---> 120GB 8mb cache maxtor + 160GB 8mb cache maxtor, however i've been considering replacing both of these with the 200GB versions:eek: .

Hey man,...youre overlooking the most important part (in my opinion). As Leeking pointed out,...you need a decent pair of monitors. Absolutely essential!!! Before any mics,..pre amps,..yadda yadda,..etc,..etc.
Those headphones wont do it,...no way.
Good luck to ya.

Take 'er easy,...

I've been told so many times that the Mackie Hr824 thx monitors are the bare minimum for a home studio, but I can't afford these now. It's more important to me to be able to play and record all this simultaneously...I'm more of a musician . However, I am saving for the HR824's, however it will be a several months before I can get them. Thanks!

I think there are a bunch of "bare minimums" when it come to home studio monitors: M-Audio, Alesis, Behringer, Event, Yorkville, etc. It's great to save for the HR824's but don't let that stop you from considering other options--particularly if you are talking years until you can afford the Mackies.

Yeah,...no doubt. I had my point 7's for 4 years before I got the Mackies. But,..I think if I would have got the better monitors first,..my sound would be better off today. Arguments for and against it I suppose.

Until i get the mackies, I need a cheap/clean stereo amplifier to drive some midsized shelf speakers? Any recommendations for less than $40? Also Forgot to mention, I'm using the SM Pro Audio PR8 8 channel preamp with phantom power. It actually sounds fine for my purposes (-10dB output only).

bump

come on, no cheap decent sounding stereo amp recommendations?

If you are planning on using hi-fi speakers, why not run down to your local Walmart or stereo store and pick up a cheap receiver?

You've already compromised the signal chain, so choosing Panasonic over RCA over JBL etc. isn't going to make a difference.

what section in walmart? I went to the multimedia area and they only sold stereos, etc.
