Ok I’m really stuck decision wise. I’m thinking of selling my 5150 II head, my pedal board and all my pedals and getting a Line 6 Vetta head. I’m not really going to be playing metal core anymore, so I need a clean channel that sounds great with effects and some good, but not overkill distortion.

What I’m really stuck on which way to go.

Here are the ups and downs of each decision:

The Pro’s of getting the Vetta head:
- Very easy setup for gigs.
- I will be able to record with it in the studio and use the same settings live.
- Many different options as far as sound settings go
- No tubes to burn out

Cons:
- Unknown reliability of the Vetta head
- Sound may get muddy on high gain at stage volume (do you know if this is true?)
- Expensive
- It’s solid state

Pros of keeping my Peavey 5150 II head:
- Known reliability
- Distortion is great and punchy
- The tube distortion tone

Cons:
1. Clean channel sounds really sterile; I need to get it modded to sound more warm and rich.
2. Heavy and a pain to set up live (w/ pedals)
3. Tubes sometimes sound different in different live playing situations
4. Tubes need to be replaced every so often.

Anyways, any advice you have would be great. Thanks for your time.

Keep the rig you already have -- sell your tv and couch -- buy the other amp -- use both amps until you decide which one you don't want -- sell the amp you don't want -- buy another tv and couch. :)

I second selling the TV and couch. Then you can have one amp for nice cleans and efx and the 5150 for overdrive.

Option 3: Forget the Vetta. Sell the 5150 and get a Rivera Fandango or Quiana. Absolutely stunning clean sound, and a killer distortion as well.
