Hello,
I have a buddies computer which has ProTools 10 on it. I tried using it and ran into many issues and resolved them from reading forums but I cannot solve the latest issue I am having. I have an MBox 2 which I installed the latest Drivers, I plugged up the Mic (AT 4040), and clicked the Record button and the sound is just Distorted. It is silent until I speak, and a distortion follows. I have changed the port in which the MBox is plugged in, and tried every port, it didn't work. I clicked and unclicked the MBox buttons, nothing worked. I've been at this for 2 days now and cannot get this to sound clean. Am I missing a download, plug in, wire, any steps??? Please help!!

That's not the setup I'm using (mbox / ProTools) BUT I did recently have a similar issue with my recording setup (dedicated 16 Channel USB mixer / audio interface and Cubase). I tried similar things to what you tried with no luck. Turned out that although the meters in Cubase didn't show a danger of peaking, the channel on the board that I had the mic running through had the gain set too high and it was clipping enough to distort the signal way before it got to Cubase. Check all of your gain / volume levels...

By what means are you listening to the sound that's distorted?

ie. what (heaphones / monitors) do you have plugged into what (interface / computer), and how (routing).

Do the Peak lights light up on MBox? If yes then turn the gain down.
