help deciding on a les paul....

Which one is heavier? I always go for the heavier guitar but that's just me...I'm used to schlepping a computer bag with 2 laptops through the airports. I feel kinda naked without 20 pound of something hangin off my left shoulder.

On a more serious note, which one feels better and sounds better to you? IF you can't tell the difference, then go with the heavier one :)

This forum is really going down hill, where you used to get some actual advice now you get a bunch of kids who've only played a few Les Pauls and all of them Epiphones claiming theyre almost as good as something they've never played. Outlaws may piss people off but someone needs to give a few people a slap around here once in awhile before you get too delusional about your cheap knockoff gear.
If these kids have never played a Gibson, why does it matter if they think epis are as good? Ive been playing an epi for 5 years, and I have no intention of ever getting a gibson. It all depends on the music too. If they're playing dirty punk in a dirty pub, do you really think there's gonna be punks standing in the crowd saying (with snobby accent) "My my, that boy really should have bought a Gibson, I say."
I understand you're probably annoyed about people saying epis are as good as gibson's, which they're obviously not, but let these kids have their opinions.

What did I say?...get the heavier one...(it will make old men of them, they won't do that crazy jumpin-round stuff for long). Besides, if any of them could play, they wouldn't be askin' ... am I right?

BTW...no matter what the snobs say...EPI's CAN be cool too! I've got an EPI LP here too. It's a great player. Won't fetch a pile of money on the auction block but that's not why I bought it. A 10K guitar in the hands of a dork still sounds like crap. A $500 guitar in the hands of someone that can play can sound like a million!

What about a $500 guitar in the hands of a dork?

i have an ESP EC300,,,with the white P90 style pick ups,,,
which ended up only costing me around £180 when i bought it in the USA a few years ago,,,! its gold,,and its lovely !

so if its the LOOK of the LP ye are after,,,with much less weight,,,
its the very thing mate! ESP ,,,much cheapmnes,,,much niceness i say! ;)

All of my guitars are considered shit by a lot of other players, but I DON'T give a shit. I am the one fingering the fretboard. I am the one who has to like the tone. The way it feels in my hands, only matters to me, not ANYONE else. Saying that all guitars that cost less, or do not have a Gibson or Fender name on them...(made in America) seems a bit closed-creatively. If there is something in paticular one does not like about a brand...then don't get it. Just don't try spoonfeeding your opinion to others. I love my SAMICK, LTD, TRADITION, SPECTOR, REGAL, CRAFTER, etc. It isn't the guitar anyway. I can't play fer shit, and a $4000.00 geetar ain't gona change that...only my love and persistance of the axe will. I have yet to know an EXCELLENT axeman, who sounded like shit on a cheap guitar, nor have I heard a lousy axeman, NOT sound like shit on an expensive one. The amp doesn't make the player either...just embellishes what is already there. All truth be known of skills, when you get down to basics with an acoustic. No pedals, amps, etc.

No, I am not saying gear sucks, just making a point, that either you play good or ya don't...equipment or not!!! :) I love Gibson and Fender. I used to own a GIBSON Les Paul Custom myself. I want to try a JACKSON too!!! :D

Try on all the guitars you are interested in and go with the one that feels and sounds good to you....within your budget of course!!! You have to decide if you want to go for a better guitar or amp, or if ya want to split the cost. I am sure, you're smart enough to sift through all of the answers you've been given, and figure out what is best for you. Just don't base it on hearsay, gather the advice, then try it all on in actuality. If you find what you really want, is still not within your reach financially at the moment.....be patient. Save a bit more. The reward will be worth it in the end. Til then keep playing and practicing your skills. Rawk on !! :D

Well, that's just wrong. You can't let that go and you have to do something about it. The obvious would be that the "dork" wouldn't know what he had and would likely fall for a really bad trade. I'd offer an exchange for a $3 ukalale and rescue the guitar. That would be a win-win deal imho. :D

I strongly recommend trying an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul. You can find a used Studio for $500, a used Standard for $600.

They are very high quality guitars for the money. I don't think too highly of the regular epiphones, but these elitists are great guitars.

Dude...where are you finding used Gibson Standards for $600.00?!?!?!?!?

Give me that guy's number!

Even if their opinion is wrong? He wanted advice, not friendship

Ok first up, sign the neg rep fuckwit.
Second, what makes their opinion wrong? The fact that it's different to yours? If somebody gave me the advice of buying an expensive Gibson, when it's quite obvious I'm looking for a cheaper guitar, I would state in the politest way possible to go fuck themselves. I'm sure the reason why he's looking for an epi is because HE CAN'T AFFORD a Gibson. Furthermore, it's not you that's going to be playing his guitar, it's him. So let him choose to play an epi if he wants. Like I said before, I've been playing one, and I have NO plans on ever getting a Gibson, when I get all I need from the epi.

Think I really give a shit about -1 rep point??
What pisses me off is that you're too much of a pussy to argue with me in the thread, so you leave lame-ass comments in the CP.
