HEEELLLP!! sonar/m-audio/windowsxp/sblive related

So I just got my Dell computer, loaded up with XP and a SB Live! soundcard. I installed my new Audiophile 2496, which said XP compatible on the box. Did XP recognize it? No. I installed the drivers anyway. Will I have problems with this?
Now I have two soundcards: the Live and the Audiophile. And I'm confused. Should I get rid of the Live? Will they conflict with each other? I'm guessing that they may. Right now I'm saving for monitors, so I'm using the Hardon-KArdon speakers I got with the system. This requires the use of the SB Live. So I installed SONAR. Gave me some weird messages, like it was dropping me to a Mono default. One point the audio engine dropped, and I couldn't figure out why. But I clicked that little "!" and I was alright. Can I hook up my Hardon-Kardon speakers to the Audiophile? Would it be better for me to do so so that I could disable the Live soundcard? In Sonar I have the audiophile used for input and the Live for output. But the speakers use a 1/8 male jack...
Also: lots of confusion regarding the Audiophile card. what's the dif between the s/pif and the other jacks? I read something about balanced/imbalanced. I bought a DMP3, also, and am a little confused as to how these two products should connect to one another. Cable advise? So far I've been working with MIDI on SONAR, to some success, just getting a feel as I only installed it last night. But I'd like to work on some of the audio tutorials, too.
Anyway, I apologize for the rambling manner, but I'm at Kinko's and I need to get out of here before i rack up too much time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
One more thing: the settings for Input are labeled differently under XP than in the outdated audiophile manual. What's the difference between multichannel/1/2/etc?

There probably is an IRQ conflict. I dont really know XP but my way around it 98SE was to completely uninstall the SB and get the Delta up and running. Then reinstall the SB and you should be fine.

You will plug the monitors into a line out or speaker out. You probably need a 1/8" stereo female to dual mono male 1/4" adapter.

Your manual will explain what type of inputs and outputs you have. If you dont understand the answers come back with the specific questions. There is no excuse for being too lazy to do a little homework yourself ;)
 
I'm not sure if XP recognized my Audiophile when I installed it or not, but it works just fine, and sitting it's sitting right below an SB Live, which also works just fine. You shouldn't need to use the SB Live to monitor sound. You just need to tell Windows that you want to use your Audiophile as the default device (or simply select the Audiophile from whichever audio app you're using). To make it the Windows default device, go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices, and click on the Audio tab. It sounds like you're gonna need an adapter of some sort to connect your Harmons to the Audiophile, but that's not a big deal. Whatever instrument or mic you're recording should be run into the inputs of the DMP3, and then the outputs of the DMP3 should then be run to the inputs on your Audiophile; again, adapters may be necessary.

1) If you don't get it to recognize the card and drivers, you won't be able to use it. Try uninstalling, the re-installing the drivers.

2) Maybe......

3) If you don't need it, get rid of it. If you plan on using SoundFonts, then you will want to keep the SB.

4) The should co-exist with each other, as long as there isn't an IRQ conflict you will be OK.

9) You could. Or you just might want to wait until you get the proper amp/monitor setup.
