Ive read a lot of information on hedphones , im a newbie and i need a pair for montoring purposes only . ive heard good things on this forum of the sony mdr7506's and the akg240, but since the akg's are half the price here ive decided to go for them. I am now debating which akg's to buy , there is the akg240's, the 240df and the 270, and all of them are similarly priced over here (UK). I need them specifically for monitoring as i cant afford real monitors, ill be using them along with normal speakers. does anyone own these microphones id like to know which is best . cheers

Trying to get a good mix using headphones is like trying to run a marathon in combat boots. Both can "physically" be done, but with lots of anguish and regret.

Save up for some real monitors, or buy them on credit.
Spend your money once, not twice.

Otherwise, you'll experience an exercise in total futility.

Yo Vurt:

You don't want to revert to more pain, then take the advice of Buck 62.

You can try to mix with cans but what you hear in the very good environment of the cans, almost any good set of cans, IS NOT WHAT YOU WILL GET ON TAPE OR WHATEVER.

But, since you are in Europe, try pricing a pair of Beyer 770 cans. They are about 130 US dollars here in the Colonies. Very good cans; as well, many Sony cans will do a good job. AKG cans are all right but just that--all right.

A good set of 900 hz wireless cans will let you be free of wires while you do vocals. I'm awaiting a set of these right now for my singers who always seem to get tangled in the can wires.

For all this information, I'll have a Laphroaig neat!!]

While i agree with what everyone has said, I have the MDR7506s (and not "real" monitors yet) and they are indeed very nice headphones, and should hold you over until you can afford something like the Alesis M1s.

Or perhaps some of you can offer other suggestions on good low end active monitors that will get the job done?

Excuse my salutation of "VURT." I had a martini moment.
