this isn't exactly a "rack" question, but..

does anyone have any recommendations
for headphones for using to monitor WHILE
recording ?? (tracking myself so using
monitors isn't an option)

some that sound REALLY accurate, where
you're not suprised when you track something
that sounds great in phones then is total crap
through speakers?

(preferably under $100, and closer to $50,
and they would have to be closed-back)

thanks in advance.

second the MoreMe's...cheap loud and killer warranty.

I'll third the MoreMe's!
I use them exclusivley to track, and they loud, but crisp enough to track drums!
Unbeatable as far as price and warranty.

Actually, the MoreMe headphones are turning up in a lot of top flight recording studios these days.

George Massenburg just got four pair to try out about 8 weeks ago. He still hasn't had a chance to listen to them because the minute the box arrived, they were put into use. It seems a lot of his high dollar phones were broken or dead. If you don't know who George Massenburg is, go here:

George is doing a drum session next week and he promised to review how they worked for him and the drummer. I already know the answer to that one.

Terry Manning (Compasspoint Studios in the Bahamas) bought 10 pair of the Deluxe phones and that's what was mainly used on the new Widespread Panic album. Terry's impressive credits are at:

Mike Clarke's "Southern Tracks" (in Atlanta) loves his MoreMe's. He had the same broken headphones problems as Mike and Terry. Mike's client list is at:

So you Homereccers are in pretty good company with your choice of MoreMe phones, and you all are really responsible for the phones in the first place. There wouldn't be any MoreMe phones if it weren't for the people here at Homerecording.com

I have been using the Sony 7506's for years and they always work nicely for me & built pretty well too. I recently picked up the Audio Technica ATM30's? These are nice too but a little basey for critical monitoring better for talent monitoring. 7506's...love em.

I have to agree with Riffy. As a VA I love having a set in my bag with me should they be necessary at a session. They're comfortable, lightweight, durable and have great sound.

and this is coming from a guy who hates Sony

My fave phones are the updated Extreme Isolation Headphones. They've gone with a thinner profile ear cup and improved the drivers.

I got a pair of Harvey's phones that I put to use as well.

One of the things to me that screams home recording is the four inch mic placements. Everything gets mic'ed equidistant from the source. The recording then possesses zero life. I believe in matching the mic placement to the sound. I recommend the Extremes for helping get quality mic placements as their isolation lets you hear what the mic hears. I think it's the best way to improve recording quality for the lowest dollar spent.

I think the 7506s changed my life at one point in time! If your not using monitors, you gotta have somethin' real good!

Sound pure and Front end have some incredible phones by ultrasone. I use those and pass out the more me's to everyone else, along with my old senn 280's and AT's

I have a few pairs of Sony MDR-V6 HP's, been using them for years. I haven't heard anything I liked better than the Sony V6's.

I've never used the moreme headphones, but i've heard nothing but good things and definitely would like to invest some money in a few pairs. I do however own a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs Precision Studiophones and those things are awesome for session monitoring. They are perfect just because they don't have an insanely bassy response which might hinder what you actually want to monitor. I hate when i hear a pair of headphones and the bass response is great but it's so booming that you lose clairty in the other areas. I'd try looking into the ath-m40fs, you can find a pair on ebay for about $60 shipped. Hope that helped you with your decision.
