Have I just bought some tape with SSS?

I bought some 1" Quantegy tape with the following codes on the reel:

456-573111
Barcode 318300420312
2002213

The tape will not REW or FF and leaves a heavy deposit. I thought the tape had a manufacturing date of 2002 (hence the 2002213), but the track sheets inside indicate a recording session from Sept 2001?
Apparently there are 3 reels with 2002213 and 4 with 2003315, although I haven't yet tried the 2003315 ones.

Anybody have any ideas?

Unless you're buying factory sealed new or new old stock, there's no way to guarantee that the tape on the reel is the same tape as what the label indicates. In your case, that would seem to be the reality unfortunately.
