:D

Yep, got them last Friday (I posted in my original thread about them...)

I got them hooked up over the weekend and I was amazed at how they sounded! I've been letting them play constantly over the past couple of days to get them broken or burned in good. They are plenty loud too!!

Since I don't have anything to really compare them against, and these being my 1st pair of "real" monitors, I don't know if you could take my assesment of them to be the Gospel truth or not........but I know there are a lot of others out there who have them and love them,....and who also are a lot more knowledgable than myself :o

i jus got mine the other day from 8thstreet. this is my 1st pair of mons too so i got nothin to compare them to, but im liking them.

gearheadness... testdrive the hell out of 'em...sounds like you got a well built set! great news..you deserve it!

Just great.... I got my Yorkies and one of them is BUSTED! The backside of it has been caved in like it's been dropped.... So it's gotta go back now. Hopefully gear1music has good customer service. I have no idea how long this is going to take to straighten this out now, but dang it I WANT MY MONITORS! :( :(

More like, let the waiting continue...... :(

I'm gonna raise hell if they want me to have to pay to ship them back to them again! That'll kind of defeat the whole purpose of buying then on "discount". I sent them an email last night and no word at all today. I guess I'll be calling them on Monday then, because just sitting here looking at my monitors without being able to use them is driving me NUTS!!..... As nice as they are too look at I want to use them.

Things are looking good now, I just got off the phone with gear1music and they said they are going to pick them up and ship me new monitors.... Woot!! :D The receptionist said that someone will call me back with the times and info about when I should recieve my new monitors. So far I'm liking this company a lot! I still haven't seen a response to my email (I emailed Thursday night, so it's only been a couple business days), but I got a real person at the company on the first call, which is even better. Thumbs up so far. If things go as well as they sound like they will, I'll be singing their praises all over the net! :)

whooa...caved in! York?

thanks for your thread. its good to know reputable companys, gear1, that eat the cost and not fight it when this stuff happens.

amazing the QC shit nowadays? who is not doing their QC job?

your lucky.

if it'd been ebay...probably wouldn't be the same thread.

Yeah, that was really nice. I was half prepared to have to fight off paying to ship them back, but I never had to. lol The lady I talked to was very nice and hopefully I'll be getting a call back soon (hopefully tomorrow :)) about when my monitors will be delivered to me.

I belive it's more of a shipping issue than QC. These monitors are very well built, but dropping a 57 pound package will surely cause a lot of damage no matter how well the product is built.

No kidding! I've had great experiences with my ebay purchases thus far, but all it takes is that "one" time something gets messed up in the transaction to cause you a whole lot of trouble!

Glad to hear things are working out for you...:)

No kidding on the ebay thing - I sold a Mesa Boogie Dual Recto head to a guy in Switzerland for $1200.00 it was supposed to take 6 weeks to get there.......about the 7th week the guy started calling and emailing but I couldn't find out any info for the USPS because they can't start investigating untill 90 days after....blah, blah....

about 11 weeks in the amp showed up...in good condition no less. Whew!!! (I spent the 1200 bucks quick and fast!

I did my first recordings with the Wharfe's this past weekend and they were wonderfull!!

Here's a link to the main thread with all of the recording details and the purpose of the sound clips (guitar amp settings) : http://apps.carvin.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=010018

Here's a link to the clips them selves: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=410286

These were done for just a "True" amp sound, no processing was done what so ever.....well a little reverb from the amp it's self. :)

Gear1music = Awesome!! :cool:

They called me back this morning and said that UPS is scheduled to come pick up my monitors tomorrow for inspection and they'll ship me out a new set. Fantastic customer service! :)

Werner..... Dang, dude you're an awesome guitarist! Great samples!

Glad to hear all is going well with your monitor situation!! (you've still got to wait though. ;) )

Thanks for the compliment!! I have three other amps to "Demo" out over the next couple of months.........after that, it's down to business --- writing/recording songs.......all though I've been longing to do one of those "Rumble" tracks. :D Hmm......

Keep us posted on your monitors! :)

That's not a problem. I don't have any projects going on anymore at the moment... Except for the CD of my band at church, but that's not on any immediate deadline... (or any deadline for that matter)... I have waited this long for them alreayd so what's another week or two? I think it'll be worth waiting for set of monitors that at the very least doesn't "appear" to have been abused. (you can never tell with UPS these days :D)

I guess the big thing is I'm just glad gear1music is taking care of it free of charge!!! :)

-tkr

Let the countdown begin..... They are scheduled to get here Oct 6.... I guess that'll give me a week or so to adjust to being back in school without having any major distractions keeping me from my homework. :D Lets just hope UPS handles it with care this time. ;)

YEEEEEAAAAAA!!!! The Yorkies are finally here!! (well actually they arrived yesterday but we were at church when UPS came, so they came back and delivered them today) I'm listening to them right now and all I can say is WOW!! These things are impressive, I can finally hear what music is supposed to sound like. :D

Everything is crystal clear on them, and these were definitely worth the wait!! There is a great balance between the lows, mids, and highs.... There seems to be plenty of lows, but we'll see what happens when I start mixing on them. I'm sure you'll all tell me if the bass is to "booming" or not. ;) The highs are so clear and after being used to pathetic "one cone to cover the entire frequency range" speakers, these are a breath of fresh air.

... And now you're going to start hearing things that make you want to spend more money and upgrade the rest of your signal chain :)

Just a couple hints for you and your new Yorkies:

The best setting for the high-end is the cut (-2) position, even if your room is really dead. These are bright speakers so you have to watch out for making dull mixes.
You'll hear a lot of reverb detail and sibilance. This might make you want to turn down the verb a bit, or de-ess a lot, if you're used to listening on less detailed speakers. Don't get too carried away with that notion - when your mix goes back to consumer speakers it might sound too dry. But, do listen and trust them for the most part!
If your room is decent, mixing the bass is easy as pie with the yorkies. Just always reference some stuff before you start mixing bass and you'll be set. The bass extension is very good. Low, flat, and tight.
BTW the +2 bass setting provides the flattest response in a room without significant modes, as it is intended as a baffle step compensation.
Once you've safely set levels, turn the limiters off, as they engage a section of the amplifier circuit with poorer-quality opamps.

Enjoy, trust these speakers and don't spend too much effort trying to "learn" them, instead just put on some material you're used to and relax while listening for a while. Then when you start mixing the right sounds will come naturally.
Get a good DAC to do the speakers justice!
And when you're ready to upgrade monitors... there's still room for a lot more life in the Yorkies, with a $200 driver mod. I might do a post about this here soon, if people are interested.

alright.
you should be good for a long time....

your damn post makes me want to hear 'em! :D

gear-whores.

Sweeeeet!

Glad everything worked out!

I've been digging my Wharfe's as well.........despite the inferrior materials. ;)

I could hear that even with my old speakers. :D

Yeah, I noticed that these are really bright, but I really like that. It's nice to be able to hear the full reverb tail and I've been listening to pro CD's on these so I've got good references when adding reverb and high end. Plus I am also keeping my old speakers connected, so I will be able to check on consumer speakers to tell if it is too dull and/or dry.

But what's really funny, is that my mixes sound "dull" on these speakers as if there's not enough high end when compared to pro mixes. And since these are such bright speakers I expected the highs to jump and out and take my head off in my mixes, but it was exactly the opposite, so I guess I can go even more with the highs in my mixes. :D

If your room is decent, mixing the bass is easy as pie with the yorkies. Just always reference some stuff before you start mixing bass and you'll be set. The bass extension is very good. Low, flat, and tight.
I'm in my living room right up against the wall, so it's not exactly ideal for mixing, but I don't have a whole lot of options at this point. lol I have noticed that the bass response is very good on these.

BTW the +2 bass setting provides the flattest response in a room without significant modes, as it is intended as a baffle step compensation.
I think that's what I'm on right now, I believe that was the default also.

Once you've safely set levels, turn the limiters off, as they engage a section of the amplifier circuit with poorer-quality opamps.
Just to be on the safe side I'll probably leave the limiters on, just in case something causes the speakers to peak (like accidentally double clicking a volume knob setting it back to zero causes the volume to JUMP way up because it was turned down before). I want to protect these speakers, so I think I'll just leave them on, they sound great to me as is.

Enjoy, trust these speakers and don't spend too much effort trying to "learn" them, instead just put on some material you're used to and relax while listening for a while.
Yep, that's exactly what I've been doing. After listening to several songs from professional CD's I went and listened to some of my previous stuff and was in for quite a surprise..... They really sucked! LOL!!

Get a good DAC to do the speakers justice!
I'd love to, but unfortunately I'm going to have to use the D/A on the Aardvark Q10 for a while longer. The pres I think need replacing before the D/A.... and that's more money that I don't have. :(

And when you're ready to upgrade monitors... there's still room for a lot more life in the Yorkies, with a $200 driver mod. I might do a post about this here soon, if people are interested.
I'm interested, definitely! That'll probably come later down the road, but it'd be great to have all the info for it.

Thanks for the great tips on setting these up!

Yep, you should want them..... These things rock.... And it's only taken me 5 years to save up for them. So I don't think I quite qualify as "gear-whore" yet..... Maybe "gear-tramp". ;)

Yeah, it'd be interesting to do a side by side comparison with the Yorkies and Wharfies..... Hey, how about you send me your Whafedales and I'll do a comparison of them. :D
