I went pawn shopping yesterday and fell in love with a cheap guitar. The sound was amazing (at least to my ear) and I love the way it played. So I bought it. BUt I am curious about the specs, just for gee wiz info. Anyone know where I can find this type of info? The manufactrurer website was no help. It's an Oscar Schmidt og-2m. If you know where I might find some info, I'd appreciate it.

You could also google it, and see what comes back.

Because I'm clearly an idiot without the skills to use google. I googled the hell out of it and came up with only the link posted in the first reply. But I wanted more information.

Watch out for teh n00b about to beat up on you natedennisdude. Take cover.:p
PSSSHHHH He can try but The Order will have my back.

On the subject of the guitar; I love it. Yes it's cheap. Yes it has a laminate top. Yes it kicks much ass. The first guy I had take a look at it didn't know much about the technical side, but he said it "sounds like a solid top. A laminate top would sound hollow." But meh, he was wrong. The tuners need replacing, but I have a set from my old acoustic that I'll throw on later. I got if for increadibly cheap and I love the way it sounds. I'm so glad I didn't go mail order. Anyway. Thanks for all of the advice you all have given. Hope you are all doing well.

You mate doesn't really know what the deal is with solid tops and laminate but heyho. It seems that it's a mahogany top in any case and it could well be solid.

What you want new tuners for? Keep in mind the last time we discussed this people died.

Yeah it's mahogany. I took to an actual luthier who looked it over and verified that it's laminate. He showed me how to tell. So yeah.

The old tuners have broken teeth they make it hard to even get up to pitch. So yeah. I was taken with the tone that I forgot to check the tuners. :laughings: Live and learn I guess.

As a matter of interest how did he suggest you check the top is solid or laminate? Was it the soundhole thing because some Korean and Chinese companies have been faking that one for a while now. Not saying thats the case here but.....

He showed two things. He showed the soundhole and how you could see the layers. But he said the wood would be "quarter cut" and that it wasn't. Since the only specs I can find simply say "deep rich mahogany" i have no reason to doubt him.

Are you serious? Wow. Got any pics of this?

Is there a more reliable way of checking? Do you check the top and the inside top with a mirror to see if the grain matches?
