Maybe slack will show up tonight, Saturday is usually HR Quake Clan nite.

Drstawl is a major Quake head now as well. Black Sabbath has been reported to have it working :)

:)

sammy...I see in your nowhere pic, you've got a mirror behind your hanging gtrs...which reveal that you are playing in your stocking feet....white sox at that too!! (I flipped the negative...cherry red strat, green bass...etc). But stocking feet...you never stub your toe when dive bombing?

your holloween mix was fantastic....and I DID listen right off the bat. I can't get those sounds out of my Roland crap.. you meathead...that's not fair.

I think I will use you as a 'mentor' and try to escape the 80's doldrum somehow....ok?

Alright, I'm going to see The Ring with the girl at 930 EST...after that I'll be looking for yas...

Kramer - hey Kramij, yeah the drums are still down.. I miss them.. here's how I mixdown.. I record everything on the Tascam 788, and then I go out of the analog outs into a Tascam CD-RW5000 burner.. For this tune I went into a Blue Max compressor before the burner.. I have to watch the levels, so it takes me 7 or 8 trys before I get the song burned as high as I can without ever clipping.. I definitely pick up noise on the way.. I cant use the burner on the 788 because it always comes out too low.. The only recording thing I use the computer for is mp3 conversion.. I'm hoping to get some mastering software soon though.. Then I'll rip the wave from the cd and then convert it.. thanks as always man! pleasant dreams!

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out man!;)I see now what you're doing.Going to an external burner from your 788.It sounds pretty damn clean even though your going out analog.Im doing pretty much the same thing with my VF-16 by going out analog/in analog on the computer.I only use the computer for mp3 conversion too.

I've gotta break down and buy a Digital sound card and some editing software.I will be set up then!

Thanks again man.:)
Kramer

Really cool sound here. Pretty spooky. The mix seems like it wants more kick. I like the drum sounds but the kick seems defecient throughout.
Tasteful arrangement. Nice.

dtb - dtb, you are a cool sob! thanks man..

Guernica - Yeah I love halloween too man! Unfortunately trick or treaters don't come to this place because of the location.. I still usually dress up though.. last year I won 2nd place at the local watering pit.. I was a witch!! I won $50 beans, and immediately spent it on a round of shots.. come to think of it, I had to dish out another $20 because it came out to $70 bucks with the tip!! :mad: :D Now why am I telling that story.. stoned agin'.. :D It's cool you got what I was going for.. 'background music.' thanks for the ears G-Money! :D

Cranky One - hey Crankij One, 'Michael Jackson's Thriller'?? :D That's a funny example, but I hear what your saying.. I wasn't even going to lay solos on this because I wanted it to be able to be played in the background and not demand attention, but add a mood.. :D It wasnt supposed to be a proper tune, but the more I listen to it, the more I'm starting to hear some vocals.. thanks for the ears One Crank! :D Check out Track Rat's reply.. out of curiosity, did you know the end solo was a keyboard?

jcmm - cool! thanks for the word man.. I was going for a big Neanderthal type sound, so thanks for using that adjective.. :D

SLuiCe - hey Tom, there is no snare drum in the beginning so I'll asume your talking about the end, and I agree... I wasn't happy with the end drums so I tried to blend them and you caught me..:o :D The funny thing is I have the nerve to complain about other peoples drums.. I just tried to click on your www link and it still didnt work.. people need quick access to your tunes man! I agree that 24 bit does sound better if your listening for it, but sometimes 16 is good enough.. This tune was 16bit and it sounds better than some of my 24 bit tunes.. For collabs and stuff I will definitely always use 24 bit though.. About Quake 3, I have had a few glasses of wine already, but shoot me a message when you get back from the movies, and if I'm not too hammered I'll be ready.. :D working on a good buzz right now..

twist - I thought I was nuts! :eek: cool narrative! :D That sounds like the narration right there! that was a good reply! :D thanks!

GONZO-X - thanks man! I'm glad you got the whole background thing I was going for... I almost wasnt going to lay any solos because I wanted it to be able to be heard, but not noticed.. :D check out Track Rat's reply for some guitar stuff..

participant - hey Chad, I'm very glad to hear there's an improvement.. Especially since I did this one @16 bit instead of the usual 24.. I also sent the whole mix through a BLue Max compressor.. I thought it helped and it's nice to hear that confirmed.. As far as your tune goes, I bumped it because I really thought it needed to be heard by all of the people who have commented on my stuff.. There is no need to return the favor, so don't bump this thread unnaturally! :D Let it live it's life and die it's death of natural causes! :D :p your a very cool dude, thanks!

Dude I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what you're talking about! And then I realized you mean the link from this site! I'm like...ahhhh www.nowhere...etc etc.... It works. What's his problem?

Sorry man. I gotcha now :D

Go see "The Ring." Fucking great.

No, I didn't notice it being a keyboard. Damn, my ears have deceived me :( Oh well, I guess I was thinking it was your e-bow thingy again, but I guess it wasn't :D

The thing I got off on was the layered synth textures--the way one thing sort of morphed into another. The sound was fantastic. As ever, the dark stamp is there--I could scare the shit out of the kids in my neighborhood with this one!

I don't think there's anybody who has a handle on using synths the way you do. Pretty awesome stuff there.

Flash - that's what halloweens's all about man! thanks a lot for the vote!

SocialNoise - you'll miss it when they don't come around any more.. thanks man!

muzeman - that is a strange new error message.. hmmm.. I guess it's Murphy's Law and all that.. :D I appreciate the vote Pete.. I felt like I was starting to annoy, but it's cool that it seems like I'm just paranoid. :D 'wait a minute!' That's not cool at all! :D I was going for a big Neanderthal sound.. I'm glad to hear this one sounds good because I did so many things different.. The biggest being that I recorded it 16 bit instead of the usual 24.. As far as the voices go, it is 2 stereo tracks.. so its actually 4 tracks.. I played the parts with both hands so there is actually 8 different voice notes going.. I ran them through the BBE sonic maiximizer, and a Blue max compressor.. I compressed the voices as if they were strings.. these things seemed to give them a bit more air.. the voice patches were from my Roland xp-30.. I think you said you had a JV 10-10? If so, you can get the same sounds.. The voice sounds can all be found on the JV 10-10 in the synth/pad bank near the end.. somewhere in the 300's.. thanks for checkin' in, and for the positive word Pete! Let me know if you want to hear more about this recording..

Lt. Bob - hey L - T! you missed my last tune (meds) so I assumed you didn't like it.. :D that's o.k. thanks for weighin' in man.. I really didn't want people to think I was taking advantage of the clinic or anything.. I wasn't even going to add solos to this because I wanted it to be able to be played in the background and not demand attention.. The more I'm hearing it, the more I'm starting to hear vocals though.. This phrase keeps coming to mind, "give, my creature life!" :D I don't know man.. Any improvements in the sound are directly because of this place.. I go over things much more closely than I used to.. You should post some music from your band with your daughter.. I would love to hear some.. and I'm really looking forward to 'turn the page' with crawdad.. :) thanks Lt.!

Myx62 - thanks a lot! This place makes me try so much harder than I used to, it's very inspiring..

David - thanks! very encouraging man..

Stratomaster - Yeah man, I miss my drums too.. :( I'm falling into this rut and I really need to crawl out.. I hear you about the guitar sounding a bit muffled.. I was thinking the same thing, but I didnt want the solos to sound too bright.. I really was going for a background thing.. Check out muzeman's and Track Rat's replies for some sound details.. thanks for checking it out Strato!

chrisharris - yeah I seem to have dropped the ball with the drum mix.. there is no snare in the beginning though.. a remix seems to be needed.. thanks for checkin' it out..

kormaniac - NOOOO! :eek: stay on your medication! :D thanks for that response man!

Emeric - damn.. I thought I nailed the mix.. I hear you about the bassyness.. I didn't notice the midrange, but it could be all the speakers here are bias.. I was hoping you would have checked out the last tune 'meds' because it had vocals and some stuff.. I'm glad you checked this out though. My event 20/20's are misleading me.. They have a way of hiding extra bass things, and they also make things sound crisper then they actually are.. I heard there was a new update for Quake 3.. I'm going to download it shortly.. I also finally got Unreal Tournaament but I'm still figuring it out.. drop me a p.m. when your into playing.. Try to give me a little advanced warning if possible so I'm not the moron holding people back.. I think I got things going smooth now.. I'm looking forward to getting killed! :D thanks Emeric!

mixmkr - I can't believe you were able to revert the picture back to normal.. That's funny! :D My buddy just got a really nice digital camera and he snapped a bunch of pictures.. I told him to make them look strange.. As far as the sounds, yeah the XP-30 is stilll cool in my book.. I have never used the sound diver thing, but I hear there are a lot of new sounds possible when using that also.. I am really technologically challenged when it comes to computers.. Thanks for the positive word on the mix, mix.. Since I did this in 16 bit and ran it through the Blue Max compressor, I was wondering what the thoughts were going to be.. I'm going to start a thread in the newbie section shortly.. I hope you'll add some input.. Since you have a ROland, you can definitely get most of these sounds.. except the ones in the very beginning and very end.. :D That Alesis still comes in handy! thanks mix!

SLuiCe - yeah I really want to see that movie man! It looks great! :) I'm glad you fixed your link so you can stop getting pissed at me for mentioning it.. :D

Kramer - thank you for making me feel like I actually know something about anything! :D

jake-owa - it seems there has been a lot of mentioning of the drums not cutting it.. I think I have to remix.. thanks for checking it out!

Cranky One - gotcha! :D Yeah its just the end solo, not the earlier one.. Keyboards rule! thanks One Crankij!

crawdad - I appreciate you voting man.. I didn't want people to think I was hogging the clinic just because I have no life, and I record with every spare minute I'm not working.. :D I even used the dreaded BBE sonic maximizer on some of the tracks! :eek: I'm glad you think it sounds good because your stuff is pro all the way! thanks crawdad! I'm really looking forward to your version of 'turn the page.' I know your voice is absolutely perfect for it, and Lt.Bob will kick that things ass!

Everyone, thank you! :)

No.....I didn't ever hear the last one so I'm gonna go look it up. I've been so damned busy the last couple of weeks that I've gotten way behind on my listening. I'm planning on staying up late and catching up tonight so I'll let you know what I think......but I already know I'll like it. You are one of the most creative and distinctive writers here and I'm not sure if you've ever put out anything I disliked.

I am all in favor of temporarily banning Sabbath from the clinic, and not letting him back in untill he posts a really happy, peppy, fun, uplifting song . . . you know, something the chicks will really dig. :D :D :D

So off you go, Sab!

And don't come back untill you post a cover of one of the following:

* Shiny, Happy people (REM)

* Brown Eyed Girl

* Bright, sunshiny day

That said, I like the Halloween music. Good stuff.

I made a very uplifting song months ago, and sent it to Sam. I'm not sure Sam still has it, because it was before The Big Crash. It was cheesy as hell, though. I can't blame him for not singing on that, though. Who would have :D

man, this is very cool. really set's the mood!!!!!!! i don't know how you keep crankin these idea's out, but never stop!!!!

thank's man

peace
