Treeline, what business do you think I'm in? :) I'm just a lowly computer whore, that's all!

By all means fix it, but buy another cable as well.

I have made at least a dozen cables myself, it's not hard and works out a cheaper but when were talking about one measley cable-the time spent reading these replies; you could have gone gotten another one by now (well almost).

Now to go off topic a little. I don't understand musicians and cheap cables. Some guitarists I know have shit loads of great gear and yet still have the worst little/battered cables. There's no point having good gear without being able to get the sound through it clearly; the outcome is really diminished.

Having said that I've probably got at least a few hundred £ worth of cables and it's quite depressing looking at it like that. For that money I could have bought...............

What should we recommend when he loses his pick? Should he try molding his own pick from a dead turtle?

Hahahahahahaha!!

btw, what the hell made u think of dead turtles when you thought about picks?

musicians friend had these cables for $4.99...plus shipping of course. I ordered about 20 of them. I have great cables too.....and there's actually such a minor difference between the good and bad, that I have not found it to be MUCH of a problem. The cheap cables crackle a bit when you move them around...but other than that...the sound is too close to quibble about, imo.

Now....I have some shit patch cords that add distortion...so they are useless.....bad gamble!!! ya know...the molded colored ones...about 3 feet long....they're junk....

Just a side note here...

Has anyone actually set FIRE to one of these cheap plastic picks? You know, like those Fender cheapies?

lol... Try it sometime, you'll see.

How about a guitar strap?

If you've been drinking all day and feel like being a real diy genius, you make one out of duct tape. Just be sure no sticky portions find your shirt or you'll end up a tangled mess. My guitar weighs about 75 lbs, so you can imagine how thick that strap is. It's like I've got an elephant trunk over my shoulder.

Hey, Slack, sorry, somehow I thought you were in the business. Does this mean you have a real job?

Setting fire to a pick LOL! I had forgotten. Jeez, the things can get hot enough to crack an ashtray! Celluloid - remember hearing of the old movie houses that would burn up because the film exploded? Celluloid is pretty wild stuff.

Yeah! Celluloid... now I have a name to go with the stink.

:D

It IS pretty cool, though. Just the edges. "Boiling flame," kinda. Neato.

Sep,
Go buy a new cable, but definitely learn how to fix the old one. Knowing how to solder and repair connections will come in handy somewhere down the line, I guarantee. I'm the guy in any band who carries extra everything, just in case. Certainly tools and a soldering iron, but at times even drumsticks and bass strings , and I'm just the guitar player. (I know most of this reply was off-topic, but other posters mentioning back-ups got me to thinking about one of my favorite rants - the one about unprepared bandmates who still owe me mucho-beero from all the times I've bailed them out at gigs.) So always have back-ups, in music, in computers, in marital relationships....uhhh...wait, scratch that one.

peace.

We're talking about less than 20 bucks. What should we recommend when he loses his pick? Should he try molding his own pick from a dead turtle? How about a guitar strap? Would a piece of string work? Speaking of strings, what do you do when you break a guitar string? Can you solder a broken string back together? After all, the little things do add up.

Yes, I agree with all the above. Very good points Slackmaster... You are correct on all of them. I would do all of them also. Im with you!

Hey Slackmaster:

The Turtle is already dead according to your scenario.... So Im pretty sure it will remain that way after the procedure...

Also, I tell you, Guitar strings don't solder worth a Shit. I stayed up all night trying to do that one! :)

Be patient! It takes practice. You can't really expect to get it right the first night. Try soldering nylon guitar straps for practice. Might not work any better, but, hey - after a couple, stuff like that can be interesting. Like the old Firesign Theatre skit about candlemaking - you get some paraffin, pour it on a table, and set the thing on fire.:D

Forget guitar repairs...... This candle making thing sounds like fun.....;)

IM NOT SORRY!!!!

HAHAHAHAH!!!!!@!!!!! = (maniacal laughter btw bcuz i = maniac)

Ok whose guitar weights a damn 75lbs? What the hell are you playing? Have you ever picked up one of those 35 lb plates at the gymnasium? Ur telling me ur axe weights more than 2 of those?

I have solved the pick issue. I let my big toe nail grow unencumbered for a few months and then I clipped it after about an inch of growth

viola! free pick, sturdy, and if u wash it.. not = smelly

Yup, free helpful hints. (just don't accidentally cut up your girlfriends legs with 'em)
