I couldn't vote for anything except "anything but Peavey", because there are no amps in the list, only brands!
And back when I had my Tech 21 Trademark 60 (or a SansAmp GT2) it could do any of these amps' sounds! (sorta could, I'm not trying to unleash anything here!)

I've been rocking my 1970something Peavey Mace for 2 years now. The stock speakers had no life so I put some Celestions in from an older amp and it's just been amazing. 160W 2X12. Now that's some power for a combo amp. The bass player in my band has a 8X10 Ampeg cab and I have no problem being heard over it. The preamp isn't that great but I keep it and the Bass fairly low so I can crank the Post Amp and get those 6 tubes working. Very nice clean crunch. The built in phaser is pretty sweet too. Some times its fun to crank the Pre Amp all the way out and rock out the crazy fuzz. Still I wish I had the footswitch for it. All of this for $200. Now that's what I call a deal.

I use two different amps
A Fender Blues Deluxe & a Marshall JCM800......which I play through an old Fender 4X12 Bottom. So maybe I am playing all Fender Speakers and the Marshall just seems to fit in. It works for me. But always listing to different things that others use.

I use a Dr Z Maz 18 Jr and a '67 blackface Deluxe Reverb with a ceramic Jensen C12N when I play out most of the time. If its and outdoor gig I'll use a '68 Super Reverb with the original alnico CTS speakers instead of the Deluxe. Its one of the early 68's that still have the blackface circuit. Incredible amp, but very loud. The Dr Z is a 2x10" class A 18 watt EL84 combo. It sounds alot like a Vox but with a little Marshall and Fender thrown in. Very versatile amp thats really sparkly and harmonically complex sounding.
I also have a '64 blackface deluxe non-reverb with a '59 alnico Jensen P12Q that is amazing. Nice and squishy. I have a '74 Quad Reverb that I blackfaced and put 4 NOS Cerwin-Vega ceramics in. Its like the ultimate Twin Reverb. WAY too heavy to gig with, though. I have a modded '75 Silverface Vibro-Champ that is a fantastic recording amp. I also use it for giving lessons. As you can see, I like my old Fenders!
I also have a Peavey Classic 50 that I bought because the price was too good to pass up. Its a good reliable amp, but I don't think theres anything paticularly special about it. Kind of boxy sounding. I have a Peavey Classic twenty that is a class A EL84 amp with an Eminence Ceramic 10". This is a fantastic amp. I use this for recording and lower level jams. I can't say enough good things about this one!
I have a '60 Silvertone 1474 that is really wonderful and unique. It has four 6l6's but each pair has its own output transformer and 12" alnico Jensen P12Q. Its almost like a stereo amp. I've never heard anything quite like it. The vibrato is amazing, too.
And lastly, I have two solidstate amps I use for jazz. An old 100 watt Polytone Mini Brute V with two ceramic 10" speakers. This also makes a great bass amp if things aren't going to get too loud. And a Roland JC-77 which has my favorite chorus. Its very clean and surgical sounding.
All the tube amps have NOS tubes in them. This makes a huge difference. The tubes made today don't even begin to compare in tone and longevity. I also like to use vintage speakers whenever possible. There are good speakers made today (Weber, Tone Tubby) but they seem to lack that something extra that an "experienced" speaker has.
Anyway, there my thought on amps!

actually, i take that back...i know a guy who had a 2x12 crate combo dating back to the 70's that sounded pretty good
and whoever mentioned ampeg rules. i have vl-1002 head, and that thing smokes. it's noisy as all shit i must admit, but when all you want is raw power, nothing can fuck with it

Wow, no love for Crate
I have played on some crappy crate amps, granted, but every brand has their shameful models...
I currently have a mesa triple rec into a 4x12 v30 which sounds great, but right next to it is a crate bv300 into a modded crate cab (4x cel g12t100's) which is absolutely searing. I also have an original 5150 into a marshall 1960a
4x12 which also sounds stupendous. As you may have gathered, I'm after the heavier tone, which isn't for everyone...But all of these amps sound quite nice, and the crate holds its own, and imho beats the mesa for all out teabagging fury at mid to high volume (i can only bear it at about 4 or less on the master volume...), it really retains clarity even in the midst of some baritone abuse, and its response to heavy palm muting is crunchier than the mesa with similar preamp gain settings... I'll be the first to admit though, the triple rec's sexiness alone earned it tons of points with me, I got the matching treadplate covered cab, and it just looks mean.
I think it's much more respectable to comment on specific models instead of saying a certain brand sucks. I mean, everyone that has commented so far has sounded mostly in favor of marshall, but has anyone played that mode four hunk of pecan roll? I have and it was quite enlightening, it sucked in ways I can't even describe.
On a side note, I have not been able to play on many bass rigs, but I am quite pleased with the sound and punch I get out of my m-pulse 600 into two avatar 4x10 cabs (dave over at avatar is my hero), very forgiving amp for someone who is new to the bass realm... By which I mean that it sounds really nice with everything set flat, compression out of the chain, you just turn the gain up, turn the master up and play, very refreshing.

hey im looking into buying a cab for my mesa boogie f50 at avatar so I can put just the cab in my closet and be able to control it from my desk. I also won't have to worry about overheating. Does a 1X12" cab sound fine or would a 2X12 be significantly better for recording metal music? Also, what speaker would you recommend? I'm thinking about the vintage30 but is there any others worth checking out? I play black metal btw.

i got sucked into the ampeg thing at an early age. i learned how to play bass through a '65 ampeg b-15s that had survived a flood in a prison. oozed charisma. my first guitarist played through a reissue jet--the 'superjet', which sounded beautiful but died young. we tracked guitars through an old jet at one point and an old gemini at another, both were just buttery. (listen to all these helpful words i'm using!) i've since moved on to a magnavox-era V-4, which not only sounds incredibly rich and solid, but also has oomph enough to spare that when my current guitarist wants to play the volume wars, i can pretty comfortably flatten him into the understanding that playing quiet is really in everyone's best interests. i've played through fenders, crates, peaveys, g-ks, nothing's ever made me even remotely interested in moving away from home.

Well i own an original 1964 Fender Bandmaster. I play mostly heavy math metal thru it with a bunch of effects and useless crap. I also run it through a JCM 900. It's only 40 watts but the thing cranks louder than my guitar players B-52 running through the same cab. (I've never been able to figure that one out).
I use Ruby tubes or Groove Tubes, Sovtek's work but the Ruby's really sound the best. The Groove Tubes sounded great in there as well but burnt out in like 4 months. I crank this thing up to about 5 1/2 and it's loud as you'll ever need. Pry better than a full stack at 100 watts.
I'd really like to get one of those Orange 120 watt amps. I played on one and was amazing. The Sunn amps are really nice two.
