 Marshall has great sound. Fender is practically useless for serious gain, others aren't as good clean though, Depends what you're after..

Once you've used one, you'll never use anything else.

That is ... until you try something else ... and then you wonder why all the hype over Boogie.

My '90 JCM 800 modded by Torres Engineering(ultimate brown sound package, which has been discontinued now), with 4 vintage 30's in a JCM 800 slant cab...I cant get a bad tone out of that thing...I tried.

#2 would be my '64 Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve, all ORIGINAL, but I've got a tube starting to go microphonic, which bums me out cuz they are all original tubes....which by the way if anyone knows where to find Silvertone tubes, please let me know....cant find any anywhere.

General Rock: Marshall TSL or AVT150
Heavyier Rock/Metal: Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier
Clean/Soft stuff: Vox AC30, Some Fenders

I've also become fond of the Genz Benz El Diablo 100, played on one recently, sounded very good. I think it's the fact that it's secksi design ROX (love seeing the tubes). It was very warm and hearty for thick rhythm to searing and high for lead work.

Of course, I don't own any of this stuff. I've played on all of this stuff enough to know their capabilites, and to learn they're some of the best. I've been lucky enough to know a lot of musicians, so I come into contact with lots of equipment.

All in all, if I had to pick one all-around amp to be mine, it'd be the Marshall AVT. That amp stole my heart. :D

I'd bet that's a DanElectro amp. They made a lot of them for Sears back in those days.

Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve, not Danelectro, although Danelectro was sold by Sears and Montgomery Ward, and the circuits were almost identical.

I have an 1962 1448. It's a Dan. I pulled it out of the guitar case and built a box for it. It's 5 watts. Great for tracking.

I vote for Alamo. The Alamos were Fender copies made in San Antonio [where else] back in the 60s. I bought a used Alamo Montclair Reverb in 1976 from Tony Glise [now a somewhat renowned classical guitarist]: 22w, 2-6v6 power tubes, a single 1AY6 rectifier and a single 12AX7A pre-amp/tremolo tube, single 12" speaker. I believe it was a copy of the Fender Deluxe Reverb. I regret selling it. It had a killer tone and I'd never be able to afford a Deluxe--then or now.

Vintage Tweed Fenders!

My 1959 narrow panel tweeds take me all the way! Bassman, Super-Amp and Champ. I also love 60s Ampegs. I had an old (top controls) Reverbarocket that was fabulous, but, it has expired. Sounded best just prior to death. Sometimes I'll use a POD with it's outputs going directly to two 1963 Ampeg Jets on each side of the stage. It's pretty inspiring, but, not quite the luscious tone the Fender tweeds provide. Finally, although the Ampeg B15N (1963 fliptop) is a bass amp (and a fabulous one), it can be wonderful for some guitar parts.

If you haven't guessed yet, I'm a fairly old fart. Bought my gear before it was vintage, then waited it out.

Well, I ain't! I can fuck and fight better'n half of you and as good as the rest.

Ac30s are a must, but Orange or just soooo cool. I wanna try a Sommatone sooo bad right now. Oh and I love my Blues Junior also.

I'd like to add that pre-Magnavox Ampegs are fantastic (blue checkboard/chrome faceplate era). I think the Gemini II should go on any "Best 25 amps of all time" list. I know there'd be some stiff competition, but once you play one... oh mama. That trem!!! And I don't even like trem!!!!

This is the one my son dug out of someone's garbage. The best free amp I ever got.
