Yeah, tell 'em to stop driving up the price of land ...at least until I get mine. :D

Yeah, the price of land doesn't bother me in the least... what does make the most most angry is:

This place I live was, until about 10 years ago, a very quiet community of normal working folks, mostly farmers. These farmers had inherited their land from their fathers who had also received it from their fathers..etc. THEN, one day someone discovered that you could buy mountain land cheap here...the land that was so steep that the farmers couldn't farm it and had no use for it, and here they came in droves building $1 million dollar houses on the mountains surrounding the valleys where the farms are. All of this has driven up land taxes so high that these local farmers are having to sell off their family farms and move into apartments in town because they can't afford to pay the taxes. I know one guy in particular that had farmed a piece of land that had been in his family for over 100 years, and had to sell it because the taxes were more than his annual income.

AND, those people that do build those $1 million dollar houses, are never full-time residents...just part-time "snowbirds" that fly back to Florida at the sign of the first frost... Because of this, they get their tax bills cut! Yeah, CUT, since they are part-time residents, they only have to pay a partial tax bill...

AND for some reason, because these new arrivals live on top of the mountain, they think they control everything they look down on... If they don't like the way you maintain your yard, garden or have some junk laying around in the back yard, they'll come down in a second to tell you that you need to clean all of that up, you're being an eye-sore to them when they look down into the valley...never thinking that we, in the valley, our whole lives, used to look up at the pretty mountains, especially in the fall when the leaves were changing, admiring that beauty...now all we can see are mountains riddled with gravel roads all going to homes of these owners who grumble about "eye-sores" in our backyards!

I know that none of these land/property tax issues are the faults of the people moving here, but rather the county government who should have homestead laws in effect much like other states have...BUT, most of the county government is made up of those folks too...so no chance in getting anything like that passed...

Ok, Ok... I'll hush now... I'll end up saying something that I'll have to appologize for tomorrow...

Well you now understand how the simple fishing communities felt when Hollywood "discovered" Eastern Long Island. There aren't any fishing communities left there now.

On the other hand, I love those people. Sure, they build expensive houses on the beach, but they still have to look at my naked pale fat gut blocking their ocean view because the beach is public land :D But what's more, 50% of the housing here is absentee-owned, which means free property taxes for the county. Sure, one or two of them catch on fire in the winter, but other than that, they don't need much for services. Also, on top of that, in the summer we get a ridiculously high occupancy tax out of the tourists that rent them :D As a result, the taxes for residents are very low, but we have some of the best services in the state. Every school in the county is new or renovated in the last six years.

The absentee owners are funny, they write angry letters to the editor saying things like they live here 5 months a year and they have money, so give them what they want! :D Only problem is . . . they can't vote! :p

Also, you don't mess with the sheriff 'round these parts . . . Andy Griffith himself! Despite that homespun image, you step out of line, and he will take you down!

Did someone put some pressure on? I just got my PP refund. I guess they voided the 180 day wait

Maybe what's-her-name is watching the whole thing. I'm wondering if PP's computer gave you the boot and she'll change its mind.

After thinking about all this, I have nothing against PP. We just got caught in an unusual situation that PP has not encountered and was not prepared for. They were just being cautious. It's just too bad that it cost us time and headaches. The person who caused this (is following this thread) had no reason to contact PayP. He has sent me an E-mail and says he didn't contact PP until AFTER PP froze all transactions. He had no business contacting PP because it only exposed him as the culprit. If he HAD NOT contacted PP, PP would not have had a reason to show me why they froze us.

Great news, Chance.
So Andrea came through big time on this, or PP is following this thread, or both. Whichever way this went down, it seems all is finally set right again.

Do we know if any people still haven't received their refunds or some indication that it will be arriving in the near future?

Ya need to send this into AC-T. I am in Arden,NC and very close to getting annexed into Asheville. I have a well and a septic system. I have absolutely no use for being annexed into city. The water sucks and I already have garbage pickup. SCREW 'EM:mad:

OOPS....... The passengers may continue. The hijacking is over:D

The person who caused this (is following this thread) had no reason to contact PayP. He has sent me an E-mail and says he didn't contact PP until AFTER PP froze all transactions.

But weren't you told by PP that they froze all transactions as they had had a complaint against you for not supplying a receipt?

I posted this in another thread as well, but thought I'd post it here too.

Here's the response I received yesterday after firing off a "to-the-point" email to the people setting up the new processing account:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Randy,

I apologize on the delay. Because of the unique type of this business the underwriting department has been very particular about pending docs and information that we provide them. I ensure you that we have been trying our best to get this acct through as quickly as poosible.

My supervisor mentioned that he is going to speak with underwriting first thing tomorrow morning to get this all resolved and finalize and get this acct approved. Once the acct is approved we will be able to get you the gateway information the same day. I spoke with Chance just a few minutes ago and gave him this update as well.

Again I apologize on the delay. We are doing the best we can.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Exactly! Thats why I find it hard to believe that the person who complained states that he notified PP AFTER PP froze us. It was HIS act of notifing PP that caused all of this mess. He could have had the courtesy of contacting me first, or posting his problem here.

Or PayPal is lying about that, too. Their story has changed... what, three times now? The stereo microphone group buy that imploded did so in pretty much the same way. A bunch of people paid and then suddenly his account was frozen and they couldn't provide a coherent explanation. I'm not inclined to believe them as far as I can throw them.

Anyway, I know this isn't a democracy, but I vote that the person PayPal blamed be limited to ACH to prevent any possibility of a corporate shill screwing up the buy, but still allowing that person to participate in the buy.
