No refund here yet, but it will come.

This from PayPal's e-mail:

"Temporary Hold Information: A temporary hold has been placed on funds that were returned to your account because you used Instant Bank Transfer to fund the original payment. The funds from this payment cannot be released until they have arrived from your bank account, which usually takes three to four working days."

Huh?

I got something similar. When I submitted payment for two preamps I already had 360 in my paypal, then pulled the rest from my bank account. When they issued the refund, I got that full 360 back pronto but had to wait on the remainder. As I understand it, the transaction request had already been put through but they hadn't received the funds from my account. Once it's on it's way there really isn't a good, quick way to postpone that, so they just waited until the remaineder on hold was actually transacted to paypal and then released it back to my account.

Kinda silly, but I suppose it could have been worse.

Yup, me too. My money reappeared in my bank account this morning. Took just what they said it would--3 or 4 days after being released by PayPal. That's the way it's always been for me in the past, nothing unusual in that (at least in my experience).

Back to where I was before all this started, and ready to spend.

Let me get this straight.

If I buy something from someone on eBay, then tell PayPal I got ripped off, they'd close the seller's account?

When you put it like that...it's hard to believe that would happen, isn't it!

According to pay pal there was only one complaint and I had to answer to it and authorize the resolve to it. As far as writing another letter. Thank you, but don't worry about it. You already went above and beyond and got us fast results, and words can not express this enough. We have all learned from this and theres no need to prolong the misery.
But maybe the time is now for the group of us to write paypal and [politely] say what we think and that there's no reason they should be tying up your account for 6 months? Before, writing paypal was certain to make things worse -- now, at least, it doesn't seem like it would make things any worse...

I thought of that too. It's a good idea but I think we'd better make sure all the refunds are issued before we do that. Then we should have some discussion as to what points we want to make in the letters and what people shouldn't say.

And "polite" is the key thing. No one is going to respond positively to a bunch of letters that berate employees and the company they work for. And on a personal level, it would really put me in a spot if a bunch of nasty letters got sent since my cousin at ebay did get someone to get those refunds out to people.

What might make sense and be more effective is if we wrote a letter and then as many as wanted attached their name to it (name, address, email address, phone, whatever). That could be better for a number of reasons and I'll list the obvious ones...
1-After reading the first few emails received, the rest are likely to be deleted without having been read.
2-Attaching all our names to a single letter shows the depth of our support for Chance in one email. It's unlikely anyone will print out a hundred or two emails but if we had one email with a hundred or two hundred names, the true number of supporters won't wind in the computers trash box.
3-We minimize the chance that someone will take it upon themselves to write something nasty (perhaps the original asswipe who started this mess) and that will become the face of our argument.

I say, post his or her info. now. Since we're well on our way to moving on. Who's our suspect?

Yep! Once it's escalates from a complaint to a claim. And it really doesn't matter what you say to them. Pretty much open and shut.

:D

Easy for you to say. Paypal didn't lock your money up for 180 days. It would be kinda stupid for Chance to piss paypal off before he gets his money back. They could just forget to unlock it and ignore him after that. Sure, he could hire a lawyer to get it back at that point, but the legal fees would be way more than what they owe him.

Another thing, Paypal uses you email address to track your account. If you use that address in a nasty letter to them, what's to say they won't make more trouble? Right now I'm just trying to get a bunch of equipment sold. After that, it's sayonara!

Just gonna do what I can to turn that red state blue.

NC ain't very red. Democrat guv'ner, plenty of Dems in the state. Where do you think Edwards is from?

Anyway, don't be surprised by the "I Don't Care How You Did Things Up North!" bumper stickers :D

. . . I'm a transplanted Virginian, so I keep quiet myself . . . :o

As for FL, well I always thought it was a stinking mosquito-infested pit, but sadly I've known more than a few people here, in the Outer Banks of all places, who have relocated to FL :( And many, many retirees here can't even stand the 40F lows we get in the winter, and depart to FL from November through March . . .

A sizable contingent of merchants close up shop in the winter and head for the Bahamas . . . now that I can respect!

And it's been trending more and more towards the blue side in recent presidential elections. I figure a few more of us northerners will put the state over the top for good.

Eh. I'll probably tell 'em anyway. :D

You're smarter than I am. I figure I have about a 50-50 chance of getting a rope treehouse. :(

I'd go to the Bahamas a lot faster than I'd go to Florida. And I won't even get into the fact that it looks like a giant flacid penis.
