All my units are black and silver too, anything but those colors I think

Gawd... they all look pretty damn good. I'm trying to pick a color... and... I can't. I definitely prefer the brushed metal to a gloss though.

But I doubt the color is going to affect my order. :D

The white looks fantastic. Especially with colored lettering. Reminds me of late '60s, early '70s gear, and that seems appropriate. Also easier to operate in dim light.

I think the earlier point about color matching is worth considering. The more saturated the color, the more difficult to confirm hue accuracy in advance of manufacturer. White will be hard to screw up.

Also - white seems an acceptable enough neutral choice, and may prevent a big "color war" from brewing here. Anyway, with white we can still fight about making the lettering purple.

Aj (who will order these regardless of color)

anyone know where i can find a small review on these things? I know someone wrote a small review on it, but I can't seems to find it.

just won a st. ives transformer on ebay! cant wait to get it into one of these units...

why dont we create a poll for the color, let it run for a few days and we can be done with it. i feel like there are so many options that it could be easy to get caught up in the color debate and stop moving forward with this. whaddy'all think?

i preordered an avedis ma5. it should be interesting to match it up with one of these head to head. jim-- maybe we could do a shoot out-- stock, your modded one and the ma5

The only thing holding things up is getting the specs on the other 2 pres.

I want to get at least 100 of each pre as well as the new FET and tube ribbon mics. I used them both on the project I am now working on and they are very nice.
Anyone here members of other boards such as GS? It would be helpful to spread the word. the bigger the order, the less we pay, plus the cost of shipping will be less too. The E-mail list is growing daily, but the more we get will benifit all. If anyone here posts on other boards, feel free to share all the information that is shared here. I would love to get the cost down to around $150.00 each for the pres

Chance-- I would clear out some space in your email account if I were you...

Chance, Europe?

Cheers

Matti

if you are asking if the gear ships to Europe, the answer is yes. The last GB, mics were shipped to Mexico, UK, Barbados, the Bahamas, Italy, New Zeland, Austrailia, and Canada as well as the USA. I can't understand why all the Overseas shipping because of the super high cost of shipping there. It would seem to me that you could get better deals locally and avoid those high shipping charges.

Fine, I´m telling some of my friends about this
-Yes but in this case no one but this group has these
and in practice it´s not so expencive ( transit ) after all.

Regards & best

Matti

sounds good to me man. my friend travis has a REALLLLLY nice splitter that i'll see if i can borrow. my plan = buy 3 of these pres. 1 to put the original xfrmr in, and 2 others just to have a pair. what did you pay for the ma5 if you dont mind my asking?

pm'ed you jim.
the gs thread got closed (by a moderator) unfortunately

No, it is still there under "So much gear, so little time"

i didn't say it was deleted-- just closed (as indicated by the lock over the thread icon and label "closed"). it can't be added to (or "bumped"). at the rate that new threads and posts are made there, it will sink back pretty quickly, but it was viewed a number of times at least.

If I understand what you've said corectly re "why do we want these shipped os due to high costs" it's because locally we're charged an arm and a leg for gear.

An example: I'm going to grab a couple more pairs of HD 280 Pro cans - Musicians Friend has them for sale US$79 most of the time, to buy the same cans locally (Sydney, AUS) stores want AU$280!! So factoring in shipping and even if I included a "step-up voltage converter" in the overall cost I'd still come out in front with your GB's.

OT and btw, just this week I found out a guy at work was an electronics wiz so I gave him my HRM10 (from the first GB) and he managed to retension the ribbon succesfully. Upon pulling it apart I was shocked at how much sag there was - but anyway alls good now and I have a cool sounding mic (not that I'd know the difference since this is my first ribbon). So, thanks again for doing this chance. :D
